77075: Khael Stonekindle [bones]

Recommended Posts

While I catch up on all the posts I've missed over the past few weeks, I thought I'd post another WIP.  Seemed that posting these wip's kept me painting more frequently.  So to get more Bones I painted up before Bone II comes in December here I go again.  Here is my progress on Khael for your viewing. Pictures taken with phone.post-12625-0-45161600-1413392041_thumb.jpg

I was wondering what miniature your title referred to. I never knew he had a real name. Gandwarf!

Love the face so far and those eyes!

Thanks, all this time I thought his name was Gandwarf as well. A search through the reaper store cured the case of mistaken identity.

Off to a great start, very nice eyes!

Thanks, eyes came out better then I hoped.

Little bit more work done.  Base coated up the robes.  Then decided too paint up the boots and attempt black again.  Leggings were a lighter grey, but I don't think it works.  I'll change it after I paint up the robes.

Looking good!  I've always loved this particular dwarf, it will be nice to see how you paint him!  ^_^

Thanks, I hope I can do it justice.

Here is a more work on Khael / Gandwarf. Basically, I only managed to get the blue shaded.

Ok decided to go darker with my shadow's.  I started with the idea of dark lining around the blue, then decided that the folds could use a little more shading.  I like how the part of the robe above the belt turned out with the shadow's.  The lower part I'm not sure of, especially in the rear.  Wondering if I went a bit to far on the main section and need to bring in up a notch. I blended some of the base color back in to the lower part.  But still not satisfied, maybe I'll change my mind when I highlight it back up.

Well, hopefully I'll get a little more time later tonight to get the highlights finished.

Thanks for viewing.

Does his stave or club extend below his right hand? I recently got a copy of him and at first glance I thought there is nothing but sleeve below the hand...

The sleave and staff run parallel to each other on mine. I can see how you might not see that if you look at it quickly.

Didn't have a lot of painting time today.  Managed to highlight up the blues.  Think I will take it up one more notch to see how it works.

I painted most of these figures quickly or experiment when I did so. The exception is the reaper figure. I didn't really paint his face with too much detail, you can't see it due to the hat and what I did paint is sufficient (white eyes, basic colour variation on skin).

      Lords

      Duelists
They look better in person (I swear, the light makes the skin look washed out more than it is, plus the hair has darker shadows.)

Feedback and Critiques are welcome and appreciated.

The dire crocodile, dire boar, and dire crab were one of the Bones 4 addons, and it doesn't look like they've hit retail just yet. Which is a shame, because we need more giant crabs.

The mud on the dire crocodile's base is just some water effect goo dribbled on that half of the base. The barnacles attached to the rocks on the dire crab's base were sculpted with green stuff. The rocks... those are just rocks.

I'm looking for something to stick Bones, specifically Ma'al Drakar's terrain, to a wooden base. It's not thick enough, at the area I want to place it, to pin effectively.

What kind of adhesives would work? I'm thinking epoxy, maybe? I just /really/ don't want to melt it accidentally and have to buy a new one.

This is my first mini painting, just finished it tonight. I have a lot to learn, especially the correct way to dry brush. But I followed a Reaper paint kit on the steps for their minis and this is what I came up with.

Once I get the hang of the minis themselves I'd like to learn to make custom bases, this one just looks awful as is.

For some reason I can't get the picture to show the color true either, it's a much more grayish blue than this bright color that is shown.

All in all, I'm pleased with its turn out.

I just like the way the blue/black wings look.  - I did the same with the Librarian Sophie. (last month)
I really need to paint up one of the metal versions for contrast.
I'm not sure what she is serving - Meat, bread and salad is the way I painted it, but that could be cake instead.
