What might help, and a trick I got from a far better painter than myself, is to lightly wash with something NOT blue, to take the shadows slightly towards grey or brown. The colour should be roughly opposite blue on the colour wheel.

ETA: I read this trick, thought it sounded neat, and used it to tone down the green on some orks, with a purple wash.. I've also used a dull red on green flesh shadows. I was very happy with the result so i thought I'd pass the tip on, BUT I haven't tried it on blues!

I like the "dark god of the smurfs" tehe

Going off SW's idea I think the colour would be yellow or orange, but that's traditional colour wheel, not inky colour wheel. The person to ask, imo, would be Pingo, the All-Knowing-Painter. She'll paint your picture with an egg and make breakfast too. :B):

Thanks SM and red, I don't know if I will try this on this particular miniature (I probably will) but it's a good technique to know. I really would like to make the skin more subtle ;)
