Reaper 03485: Alfred Redlute (Gendrick the Bard) WIP

Recommended Posts

Getting started on this guy with a bit of a conversion/addition. This is Reaper Figure Alfred Redlute (SKU# 03485) which I'm painting up (speed paint table-top quality) for our bard named Gendrick.

This guy looks a LOT like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith!

Anyhow got the information tonight on what colors he wants used and he's all primed up and ready to go.

Colors will be:

Hair - Dark Brown

Eyes - Dark Brown

Skin - Slightly Tanned

Tunic - Browns

Shirt - Green

Pants - Dark Green with light green stripes

Boots - Black Leather

Lute - Reds with Gold trim

The crossbow will be attached to his back, so that has been primed up as well and pinned so that I can paint it up and then I'll attach after everything is painted. No plans for the basing yet, but it'll probably be something simple like an inn wood floor as he travels around and plays for his food/drink/lodging.

You need to tie some silk scarves on his crossbow, and give him a harmonica. Maybe and elevator-themed base...

Go Ub3r Go...

Brilliant idea adding a crossbow....

Hmmm... when you pull the crossbow trigger, does it produce a "#G, B or C"...

one of the puzzles of life.

Looking great !

I like this bard much more than the "waving my lute in the air as I charge with my sword" version of Alfred Redlute.  (Which is lost somewhere in my house.)  ^_^

Did you sculpt the crossbow or is it from a weapons pack?

That's nice that you've already been given a color scheme. My biggest problem is always having to choose colors.

Yeah, I was happy about that since he is for one of the players in my group. I always want to customize as much as possible so I ask for color schemes and anything they want added/removed from the figure for mods.

Thanks Jay! The xbow he likes to use when he's not using his lute to kill enemies.

Yep, I liked him better than the other version as well. No sculpting, the xbow is from Reaper Weapons Pack 1.

Here's what I ended up doing last night, about an hour of work on his face and hands. Had to re-do the eyes about 3 times to get to this point. Going to do a few more glazes to get a bit more color into it tonight hopefully. My goal is to knock him out before the long weekend so I can get started on the big diorama project for my brother's xmas present.

Thanks Jay!

He's definitely a fun little guy to be working on, the plan with the Xbow is to have it pointing upwards at a slight angle across his back. I'm trying to figure out if I need to use some green stuff to build a leather loop to hold it in place to be more realistic and to give it a bit more to hold onto when attached to the figure.

Anyone have thoughts about the xbow?

Working on Gendrick right now. Got a bit more work done for shading on the face and then did his shirt (still need to do buttons) and finally the striped pants! I'm pretty happy with the striped pants actually.

In an unusual turn of events, I ended up painting the same miniature three times this week.  First one was for a customer who wanted the bard from Dark Sword Miniatures but without the pipe in his hand.  So it was replaced with a glowing musical note.  Red armour, blue clothes, yellow cloak.   While I was working on it, a different customer wanted the same bard but just a quick paint job for a sidekick NPC in his D&D game.  Of course, no pipe for the second bard either.  Brown armour, green cloak.  I think I spent more time on the base than painting him.  While I was working on the second one, the first customer decided he didn't like the colour scheme and could I change a couple of things.    No problem, I'm happy to do it.  But there is OSL and all kinds of other stuff, so it was actually much easier just to start again from scratch.  So I painted him a third time.  Red cloak, grey clothes.

Some people might call it Minivember, though technically I had 23 days of vacation and just wanted to paint a mini every day. Some were finishing older minis, some entirely new, some were the size of a nailclipping. I present, my Minivember.

'Tis the season! I posted this a while ago before is got paint on him. Santac'Laus has featured in the Christmas one-shot games I've run for the last couple of years (and this year is no exception). He's gone from villain to lovable (but weird) friend, who rides a manta-ray-shaped sleigh, pulled by a team of beholders.

If you're one of my players, please don't read the spoiler!

The hat, sack and present were all made with green stuff. The snow was made with snow powder mixed with water effects.

I finally finished this project! This was a mini I got a forgotten number of years ago with an order during October. Being as this is a more modern vibe the first thing that came to my mind first is: Make her a neon Witch! This was such a joy to paint. It was my first real attempt at osl and sheer fabric. I used quite a few reaper paints but I will give you the main ones that pulled of the effects that I wanted. If you have other question feel free to ask and I will share with you what I used/did.
      Dominant paints used:
      Punk rock pink 09286
      Marid blue 89526
      Clear magenta 09098
      Regal purple 09238
      Clear purple 09099
      Nightmare black 09280
      Fair skin 09047
      Dark elf skin 09164
      Pure black 09037
      Pure white 09039
Let me know what you think!
