I guess the small size of mechas could be due to pilots being eight years old, so I guess this is a not Neon Genesis kind of thing.

That aside, bizarre bright color schemes that might actually make 40K players cringe? I'm not sure that's the best approach to selling people on a mecha game.

What I really don't get is the campaign talking about eight factions, but showing no indication of a larger variety of models being even as much as planned. Garish color schemes aside, I have zero interest in a game with eight factions that apparently all look the same - and surely on that count, I do not stand alone.

The colored dice and modular gameboard remind me a bit of Siege of the Citadel.  I suppose if 'factions' just have an extra ability (as in SotC) that would be simple enough and keeping within the minimalist style shown here.

I think my young nephews might like this.

Pass. I've had a set of these mecha for a long time (bought a box maye 10 years ago) from Red Shirt games. The quality is cheap and the sculpts are unimpressive but I needed proxies for btech. They had a game called 'Mek Wars'. never bothered picking up the rules set.

So then are these reproductions actually 28mm robots, or are they just "mecha" in another scale? Because those are 25mm bases, and it's disquieting to imagine that the owner of the Kickstarter does not understand the scale of the models he has co-opted and for which he is requesting people's money.

Hey all, this is James Eisert, the guy who is running the Alpha Mecha Kickstarter.

Thanks for talking about the game. I need the input both good and bad.

The minis are listed at 28mm from my manufacturer so that is what I went with when asked.

I respect your opinions on how the mechs look, but I would disagree that they are of bad quality. Now, if you do not like the paint jobs, that would be my fault. Not that I painted them, but I did ask for them to be painted that way for the most part. I do have newer paint jobs done, but I have to get the camera again to take pics (I borrow a nice camera since I do not own one that nice). Hopefully, I can change some of your minds on that.

Also, they are the only figs that have interchangeable parts. This saves everyone a lot of money in the long run. So if you liked the price of the game, you would love that idea that you can field so many configurations of squads with just one boxed set and maybe a extra squad or two.

Thanks for pointing out about the factions as I should explain that more what they mean in the game. I can understand that some would assume that each faction will get their own line of figs. Not at all. The factions get a different pool of pilot skills and mecha configurations, or favorites at least. But no, they do not get their own line. It is more like the Silent Death spaceship game, where there were 12 houses that was mainly for paint schemes and flavor.

Also, please be aware that this is a true Kickstarter project. I have done all the groundwork myself (the website, kickstarter graphics, photos, etc.) but I realize I am far from a graphic artist. I cannot afford to hire graphic artists ahead of time to make everything look like these pros that are coming in to the kickstarter fold. (Not that I mind that, KS gets their 5% from their projects to keep doing their thing, which is to help guys like me generate funds for our projects) I plan on money being spent on artists to make the game to par with other games graphically.

I believe, with my upcoming video, I can convince you that Alpha Mecha needs to be on your shelves. I do not expect it to replace your favorite mecha game if you have one, but as an alternative for reasons I will make clear in the video.

Thanks again for all your input and please share the KS with others!

Jim

Go buuy a couple of miniatures in different scales, compare, measure, and then give your own estimation. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to be a better job than your manufacturer here.

That aside, if these really are nice modular kits, you'll need images to highlight that. Because from what I see so far, they look like unspectacular sculpts with paint jobs that make me cringe. That cringing aside, I'm pretty sure a lot of people just see ho-hum sculpts with little going for them.

From my perspective, apart from the presentation issues that other people have mentioned, I've worked out the aspect that bothers me the most:

Soldiers of the New Earth Republic that have the honor of piloting mecha are of the best of the best. Their minds are the quickest, their reflexes have no equal, their loyalty burns within them...

...and they are only eight years old.

This may be because I have children of my own, however the idea of child soldiers doesn't sit well with me.
