Sheesh, you guys. Thanks to your suggestions I had to go out and spend a whopping $0.88 on a gallon jug of distilled water.

Which will now save me money by using slightly less paint. So... I need to buy more minis? Thanks a lot ;)

They should be careful.  It is actually possible to kill yourself by simply drinking too much dihydrogen monoxide.

That said, I actually have some of the old 'water+'Future' floor polish' that I dabble with on occasion, just because.      I have little worry about ruining paints with it though, as I do not mix it into bottles, but in pallet/whatever is being used, as whim dictates.   So a couple of drops of paint at most, might be ruined. And I've ruined more than that by sneezing (don't ask).

I don't really use gunk anymore. I use some premixed washes to achieve certain results like rust and dirt, but otherwise I generally just use water. I don't even use distilled water most of the time. I do use some of the RMS brush on sealer to thin metallics and liners for washing Bones. That's about it. I'm not saying gunk wouldn't work well, I just never got into the practice of using it.

With premade washes (and ink), you can mix on the fly. Natural colors are not flat basecoat. Just as it's common to gradually add one paint to another as you paint (eg. shade), you can do this with washes and paint as well. Also, if you have some wash on your wet palette, you do some controlled washing while you paint. Reaper MSP paints have flow improver added, so there's not as much need for thinning, at least on a wet palette. Either my brush will be slightly wet from rinsing, or the paint will absorb some water though the wet palette.

Usual caveat: I paint to tabletop.
