After a conversation with Ladystorm, we decided to reboot this thread each month, to keep it from getting too cumbersome.  Here is a link to the original thread.

One other note, I'd like to propose that someone else take the questioner helm come January.  The thought here is that a different person takes a turn as the questioner each month.  This will keep the game fresh with a new spin on the questions as the months go by. As I have already started it, I'll do December.  PM me if you want to be a questioner and I will coordinate the months in another thread.

The rules will remain the same:

1. Each day (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question (Large and Bold).

2. You each have one day to answer that question before I post the next.

3. After I post the next question, you may no longer answer a previous question.

4. Only I may post questions, but you may submit questions to be posted by me via PM or to [email protected]

5. You do not have to answer a question, obviously, even if you are playing the game.  Either simply wait a day without posting or post that you decline to answer (why would be nice).

Andy

The past year all my mini buys have been fantasy genre. I'm a sucker for anything I can use in my D&D sessions. Most recently I bought the October promotion chibis because of the collectible/cute factor. I did back DSM's most recent KS for all the pretty figures. That's a new thing for me. Buying a figure just because I wanted to paint it.

Monthly questioner? Is that anything like the Quisition? Where's Shadow Raven?

Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)?

I buy a huge range of miniatures.

The bulk of it is fantasy or mecha related. (Meaning DHL/Pathfinder or Battletech/CAV/etc.)

For fantasy, I buy all kinds of monsters, PCs and NPC types. I tend to shy away from excessive nudity / cheesecake most of the time. I also limit myself on huge dragons and the like, because I rarely paint them, and they make me feel guilty.

I don't buy very much in the pulp/modern genre. I have bought some, but not lots, of Steam Punk stuff. I play miniatures games, so that adds some additional stuff. (Currently Firestorm Armada and Dropzone Commander.)

At a very rough guess, my spending, stacks up roughly as follows (from most to least):

1. Fantasy man-sized figures (including both characters and monsters)

2. Sci-Fi Mecha (Mostly meaning Battletech, but also including Kickstarters, like CAV and Robotech)

3. Gaming minis not previously covered

4. Giant monsters (Dragons, giants, mythical beasties, etc)

5. Everything else.

These rankings vary over time. 5 years ago, fantasy minis would have been in 3rd place with everything else in the same order.

Not counting Bones miniatures I tend to buy "personalities." Generally human, elven, or dwarven, with a smattering of others thrown in. As far as classes go I prefer Knights and Clerics to paint.

I paint fantasy miniatures almost exclusively.  I tend to like monsters and women.  I'm pretty specific about my ladies though.  I'm not a fan of cheese cake.  I like my ladies pissed off and practically dressed but this isn't often possible.

Women.  I buy many types of figures -- monsters, dragons, sci fi, historical -- but I always look for women and female figures.

This is a historical artifact.  When I was a kid female figures were few and far between.  I made a point of seeking them out, especially prizing the sensibly dressed ones (but I didn't say no to cheesecake).

To this day I still get an "Aww" reaction if I look over a minis line and realize that they are all male.

A depressing number of them are.

Purchase tends to be all over the place, getting round to actually painting something I tend to prefer Humanoids. Orcs are always fun, especially those with cobbled together armour, either fantasy or sci-fi.  I'm swinging towards an interest in a dark fairytale vibe at the moment though so I've been looking at Elvish figures, not quite full on Dark Elf with Spikey Bits but not as regal or nice as the usual High/Wood Elf style. Some of GW's newer Wood Elves and PP's Legion of Everblight have been peaking my interest. Stags and feathered cloaks seems to be hitting the right note for some reason.

Just about anything, but I am sorely lacking in the "humanoid monster" department (bugbears, gnolls, hobgoblins, lizardmen, etc.). Lately, it's been PCs and Dragons, though I did just pick up a Chuppa from Hearth Stone Miniatures. You know you want one.

Fantasy mostly, and I have a penchant for undead and barbarians. I alternate between batch-painting troops for wargames (usually not very big batches, 10 at the most) and focusing on single characters which may not necessarily be used for gaming.

Shadow Raven is the High Quisitor.  Us mere Quisitors try not to bother his Questioness with our petty concerns, preferring to attend to our Quisition duties and hoping to earn his pleasure.

Fantasy, definitely fantasy.

Purchases are all over, thou I tend to buy more PC types then anything. Unless of course the creature is a unique that I can't replicate with something else, then I'll buy it.

Is "kickstarter" a class of mini?

Sans needing one-offs for a project or whatever, I'm slowly moving through all 20 of the miniatures I have, soon to get 20 more from cav, bones 2, kingdom death, and dark sword. Ill paint anything and everything, personal preference overall to dragonkin...but that's just because they look awesome
