ub3r_n3rd
Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)? Typically, I purchase and/or paint PC figures mostly right now they are for playing Pathfinder/D&D with, but I also like a lot of the others kinds of figures (dragons, monsters, humanoids, animals, etc.) to paint up and put into dioramas/vignettes/use as NPCs/Mobs/Monsters in my games as well.
CashWiley
Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)? The best ones. My interest lies mostly with interesting sculpts. I'm pretty snobby about minis and at this point I've got more than enough 'gaming' quality minis. I want to see top-end sculpting, interesting detail (not just more detail, but interesting!), lots of character - whether that be a dynamic action pose or a pensive static pose.
aku-chan
I tend to stick to PC minis of the fantasy and steampunk variety (particularly female ones), but I'll pick up anything that interests me. NightyKnight
Dragons. I love to paint them and I think they are awesome also I don't really paint to many humans as I am still afraid I will mess up.

I don't think he's done a full-scale dragon yet, but I'm curious. Edited December 1, 2014 by klarg1
72moonglum
I enjoy mostly older miniatures. Even though I do like lots of what is sculpted today, I enjoy the works of the days of yore, older Grenadier, Ral Partha, Heritage and such. Crazily, I've also been looking at some older Reaper stuff in the older Casketsorks stuff, lots of the older Garrity stuff for example, and really enjoy that too.
ShadowRaven
The High Quisitioner approves of this thread, and fully supports Talespiner's Quisition. The High Qusitioner also mainly paints fantasy, with a certain love of elves (especially Sandra Garrity's and Werner Klocke's) and followed closely by dragons. We are looking forward to the dragons from Bones II to add to our ever growing collection.
Werkrobotwerk
Generally I buy minis for whatever game my group is currently playing, but if I am just buying to paint I tend toward minis wearing closed helmets/masks, or women in dresses. I am currently looking toward painting things for Mechwarrior, or Shadowrun.

I'm also doing this more and more, going with higher quality metal and resin figures to paint. I'll use these higher quality for my own personal gaming figures.
dwarvenranger
Looking at the mass of minis, I'd say in general I buy minis that have at best a 25% chance of being completely painted
Jasonator
Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)? I started out painting whatever I thought I could muddle my way through. I then started going towards the 25mm challenges, and now I find that I prefer action, movement, deep sculpted miniatures of various sorts. So Fantasy, and anthropomorphic Mini's. If it is challenging I'll go for it. I have developed a taste for sharp edged metal 25mm mini's though. Oh, and if it s Tom Meirer scilpt count me in immediately ! I adore his Elves, and Arthurian Series.
FaekiasDracon
I would say shiny ones, but since most of mine are bones... I really just look for minis that strike my fancy in some way, be it a dynamic pose, an interesting species, or just something that would fit into one of my plans. Oh, how I have plans...
Kharsin
Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)? Fantasy mostly, although I have drifted over into SciFi on occasion. I mainly just paint what makes me happy, or whatever is required for whatever contest/exchange is currently happening. I should probably paint up more critters and things to be more well-rounded....
Dr.Bedlam
I go through phases.I don't do a lot of PC miniatures; I think I have at least one of every core and prestige class of fantasy PC mini ever made. I do, however, buy them when I see one that's distinctly different from anything I already have, or fits an idea I have rattling around in my head; at one point, I bought several D&D prepainted plastic paladins because he looked a LOT like Ron Jeremy, and with some slight thickening of his middle, a weapon swap, and a repainted surcoat, he became the Legendary Semi-Sacred Ron Jeremy figure. As my painting has grown better, I'll sometimes buy an interesting new piece to try new techniques on.I do like monsters. I may never quit buying dragons.I don't do eBay, but I love finding old miniatures... I have a great many Grenadier and Ral Partha from the misspent days of my youth, and am often on the prowl for the old licensed Dark Horse and GW minis, back when GW was all about the gaming.Every time I think I'm done with mouselings, Gene Van Horne comes out with something new and interesting, durn him. And Jason Wiebe is very good at suddenly coming out with something I'd already been thinking about, or something that just makes me think, "Okay, that's new and different. I want it." Which is probably why Reaper keeps paying him to do that. Julie Guthrie and Bob Ridolfi are rather good at that, too... if you'd asked me if I wanted "Wizard of Oz" miniatures, I would have said, "No," but when they showed them to me at Reapercon, I sighed and said, "Shuddup and take my money..."I don't normally do science fiction minis unless they're plugged into a game I'm playing. I'm currently wrapping up the minis with the Mars Attacks! game, and sometime late this week or early next, I'm going to have a great many CAVs to consider...
tiniest rhombus
Mostly fantasy, other than space mouselings, I don't have any sci-fi minis. I tend to gravitate towards females, elves, dwarves, monsters, dungeon decor, mouselings and whimsical creatures.
