No preference really. I grew up with a lot of star wars, read the books but I remember very little. My mothers a Trekkie so I couldn't pass the age of twelve without having seen the entire original series. I caught up to doctor who after 10th.

I enjoy them all.

Going to Nerd rage/silliness today.

Question 25: Star Wars, Star Trek, or Dr. Who; what's your preference?

Seriously?  That's like asking which of my children I love more!  You can't expect me to answer this question!!!!!!

I honestly couldn't pick a favourite.  They all scratch a different itch for me and I love them all.

Star Wars - when it comes to Space Opera, the original trilogy is unparalleled.  Came out over 30 years ago and we still haven't come up with anything that even comes close to matching Star Wars in this category (imo obv - but if you disagree, then you are wrong).

Star Trek - granted, there were some awful, awful episodes mixed in over the history of Star Trek but when the writers got it right, it was amazing.  There have been so many classic moments that I marvel at how anyone is able to pick out a favourite episode (never mind a favourite show!).

Dr Who - as with Star Trek, some awful episodes exist but, as with Star Trek, so many classic moments exist that again, I can't even pick out a favourite episode.  But the idea of a protagonist who goes on adventures around the galaxy (and throughout time) solving problems using his brain instead of brawn.  Now that is my type of role model!

Lastly, why no love for Battlestar Galactica?  I wasn't hugely impressed with the final season but the first 3 seasons of the BSG reboot were amazing!

I have a distinct preference for Star Trek.  I like star wars some but I think that the expanded universe is weird and mostly not worth the effort (I'm sure I'm out numbered on this, I'm ok with that I also hate GoT).  DR Who is fun and I have thoroughly enjoyed both new who and classic.  its not really serious sci fi but its great story telling.

The first EU books I read were actually the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn.  Those books were amazing and managed to capture the feel of the original trilogy perfectly.  Imagine my disappointment when I move on to read some of the other EU books.

I fully agree with you on the Expanded Universe Dontfear. Some of the books are really good, as are some of the comics. Others are such utter crap that I almost want to support book burning

I'm glad I'm not the only one.  So many of my friends are or were into it and while a couple of stories were good they are vastly out numbered by the total crap.

You'll be relieved to know then that the EU has been officially tossed by Disney...

Damon.

In a way I am since it wipes the slate clean and gives them room to not do too much fan service and pandering which irritated the bejeezus out of me in the new trilogy (not that I enjoyed them too terribly much on their other merits).  However, it leaves them a whole new world to ruin.

Don't know if I can keep up with a daily question, given that I am usually required in at least three different places at the same or near the same time.

Missed the first one but will the answer to any who want it....... (Probably not the wisest choose on your part)

I have to go with Star Wars. I love the other two, however three words, SUPER STAR DESTOYER! The only issue I have with Star Wars is that the @&[email protected]" Stormtroopers can't hit the broadside of a barn at point blank range...... 120 shots for 1 kill???? Come on even I am not that bad of a shot.

Hmm, Star Trek has the most childhood memories. The most of which were probably TNG (despite watching DS9 and Voyager - and every now and then some TOS). It was a typical show we watched as a family.

Star Wars is a different feel of nostalgia. It was more of a big screen action feel, even though I was not alive when it hit theaters. The prequels became a huge family event.

Doctor Who is a new find for me. Somehow we missed it when I was growing up and it has been good fun watching the newer Doctors so far (only have seen the 9th, to be honest), but it doesn't have the nostalgia the other two do.

original trilogy > TNG > TOS movies > TOS > TNG movies > DS9 > Voyager > Enterprise > Dr. Who > prequels

O do not watch Dr. Who; no offense intended.

Have you tried? Honestly, it's everything I love about science-fiction jammed into one coherent storyline. Or rather, it WAS...until Davies left.

I've watched a few episodes starting with the 9th Doctor--to watch more is perpetually on my to-do list. I've seen enough to know it's definitely less my speed than Trek or Wars in general, but, yeah, still aiming eventually to get back. One day.
