falstius
I think if I watched the old Doctor Who in a format where I could run it at 4x speed, I would be happy. It isn't that I'm impatient, but rather I don't have time to watch 50 years of REALLY SLOW plot development.
Kharsin
Star Wars all the way! Growing up my mom would watch Star Trek, and I kept wondering, when is something going to BLOW UP!? There aren't any lightsabers?! At the same time, the freaky intro music on the old Dr. Who gave me not so good feelings as a child... I haven't watched enough of the new Dr. Who to make an assessment.

Bruunwald
I want to add to my previous answer. To ensure that I keep looking at a wide variety of manufacturers for a mix of purchases I keep a notepad file with every one I come across listed in it. Every month or so I load the file up in a piece of randomising software which shuffles the order and buy something from whichever one comes out on top (if they've got nothing I'm interested in they get removed from the list). The last couple were Brother Vinnis so I picked up this rather nice female mercenary, and Knight Models from who I got Harley Quinn. Next one is Avatars of War. Yes! I have also started to sample different manufacturers. In fact, I just ordered my first Avatars of War mini yesterday. I'm a big fan of AoW. I've got a decent sized collection going. aku-chan
I quite like all three. But if I had to choose, it would be Star Wars, I like all the movies (so far) compared to Star Trek, where I lost interest after The Next Generation (became too soap-operaish for me) and Dr Who, not too keen on NuWho especially the recent seasons (Moffet ).
redambrosia
Going to Nerd rage/silliness today. Question 25: Star Wars, Star Trek, or Dr. Who; what's your preference? Oh dear, that is quite a question now, isn't it.... Issac Azimov, definitely.
Moderator OneBoot Posted December 3, 2014 Moderator Share Posted December 3, 2014 I like ALL OF THEM. No, seriously. I like Star Trek because the characters are awesome (I'm more partial to original Star Trek, but I do like many of TNG characters too :D ). Star Wars I like for the overall story and thematic elements. Plus epic lightsword battles IN SPACE. Plus Harrison Ford, lol. Dr. Who I like for those really awesome episodes, as well as the general scientific silliness that tends to induce apoplectic rage in Mr. Boot (who has a Master's degree in both Physics and Nuclear Engineering ). Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
Flamehawke
Question 24: What class of miniature do you typically purchase and/or paint (PC, Humanoids, Monsters, Dragons, etc.. Feel free to make your own categories, just define what they are)? Fantasy. Lots and lots of fantasy minis. I pretty much don't play any sic-fi or modern games. I tend to purchase female minis due to being female myself and playing female characters. I started purchasing some more male characters after I realized I had almost none, which was not good for my male players. So until recently I had the opposite of Pingo's problem of more male minis than female. Oh and I like to purchase dragons. Currently increasing the number of monster and enemy creatures I own as that is shockingly few as well. Hmm. Reminds me.... We are going to play ED a few of those Eldritch horrors might be useable as horrors in the ED game. ::wanders off to look at minis:: Ooops. Missed we had gone to question 25. So will answer that now. I prefer original Dr. Who over current. Prefer TOS Star Trek over the others (though all have their moments of greatness). I can take or leave Star Wars depending on my mood at the time. Dai-Mongar
I can safely put Dr Who at the bottom of the list. I've seen a few episodes here and there, but it doesn't grab me. Trek and Wars is a bit harder though - especially if you take the franchises as a whole, they both have their soaring highs and abysmal lows. But ultimately I think Star Trek has more hours of quality watching.
Sanael
Hmm. I can't (ok, I choose not to) compare SW with Who or the ST series. Movies to movies and series to series. That said: I really enjoy NuWho. Given the choice, I'd rewatch Who over any of the modern Trek series; I've seen TNG, VOY and ENT all the way through once each, and DS9 twice and I feel like I've gained all I can from them; the new Who series I feel might benefit from rewatching. I'd rather rewatch classic Trek than classic Who, although I haven't seen all of either (only missing three episodes of Trek TOS). Starting with Episode One and the first Star Trek movie, comparing the two franchises movie for movie, I would rather watch: The Phantom Menace Wrath of Khan Search for Spock A New Hope (Voyage Home suffers for being in this slot; I love Voyage Home, but ANH is just better) Empire Jedi So from that perspective, I guess SW is my favorite. If we start with Episode IV and go in production order, I prefer: ANH Khan Jedi Phantom Menace* I can never recall which is five and which is six, but not SW epis 2 or 3. So from that perspective it's an even split. I realize this discounts all the Picard Trek movies and the reboots. I don't need to rewatch any of the Picard movies any time soon. I really like the reboots. Genre-wise, I like the ideas explored in Trek over those explored in SW or Who, any day of the week. Production-wise, I think Who has the others beat: I like the look of his world, and the continuity, best. Special bonus: I like Clone Wars better than Trek Animated. I really enjoy reading all the different ways and reasons people arrive at their favorites...you'll notice I still haven't declared a favorite, just a few preferences, all of which are completely mutable if the situation warrants. For example, I haven't seen SW epis 2 and 3 since the theaters...I've been meaning to rewatch them, just to refresh the memory (I also periodically eat Eggplant just to be sure whether I still hate it. I know my tastes change over time, so it's important to test old "givens"), so I might decide to watch them even if someone handed me those and two Trek movies. *you'll notice Phantom Menace beats out Trek twice, including Voyage Home (for which I have a soft spot). I love watching Phantom Menace. I recognize the crimes it commits against the franchise, but I think if you stripped away the expectations of what came before, it's actually an enjoyable flick. It has good action, good music, and a followable plot. Relatable characters. Liam Neeson and Ewan MacGregor. A really good lightsaber fight (the best lightsaber duel of the six movies, hands down, but I'm not comparing it right now). I LOVE the pod race. If I watch it expecting ANH, I'll be disappointed, but if I watch it expecting an enjoyable movie, I do. If epis 2 and 3 had followed through they'd be a great trilogy (but not the way the originals were).

Fantasy.. dragons dragons dragons.. any more unless I need a mini for an exchange, I'm only buying display pieces or KD limiteds that catch my interest.. I've looked at Steampunk and futuristic minis, but other than Druscilla from TGG there haven't been many futuristic ones I like.. Going to Nerd rage/silliness today. Question 25: Star Wars, Star Trek, or Dr. Who; what's your preference? Star Wars, Babylon 5
Flamehawke
I like SamuraiJack's taste in minis as a person who loves dragons. I really should have put my own preferred shows down, but I have very fond memories of the classic Doctor. The night those episodes aired were the only nights I was allowed to stay up late. So I would sit and watch them with my mom. We would talk and laugh. It was fun times. So I will always hold fond memories and place him up higher. I liked the show Firefly. I was so sad it only lasted one season, but I did like its movie as well.
Sanael
I have still never seen Babylon 5. I need to rectify this. Netflix needs to put it on instant view. Oh, and as for BSG...I don't understand how anyone watched the pilot for the newer series and thought, "yeah, this should be worthwhile." I haven't watched the series, because I've twice tried to watch the pilot, and it's just terrible. I do like old BSG. ...yeah, I know. I won't watch the new BSG, and I think The Phantom Menace isn't awful. I'm weird.
