There was a weird retcon of the general reception for Die Another Day that happened once Casino Royale came out. I mean, right? I'm not crazy, am I? When it first released all I remember hearing was how it was a return to form, and that the premise of a disgraced Bond operating from the outside was so good, etc..

fwiw I liked it well enough--I even enjoyed the ridiculousness of the invisible car and the ice castle tbh, though it was way over the top. Didn't care for how hard they pushed the Jinx character tho--still can't believe they were actually trying to spin her off in a solo movie lol.

All I can remember is people complaining about the car and Madonnas cameo.

And one film critic who found the idea of being able to take photos with your mobile phone ludicrous.

We rented Aquaman and watched it again... it does not stand up for repeated viewing, I am afraid. (And the bad CG effects remain bad on the small screen. It's like no one involved in making the film had ever tried swimming, let alone diving.)

Watching it a second time dropped it from 3/5 to 2/5, at least for me.

Fant4stic.  Wasn't as bad as I was led to believe, but I'm not super invested in the Fantastic 4 so wasn't upset by the changes.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.  Very fairy tale, very enjoyable. And for some reason hit me in all the feels.

A-X-L.  This was really entertaining, and left me with 2 thoughts. Becky G is distractingly pretty and I need a couple not-A-X-Ls in Bones.....possibly more than a couple, but not a couple of 20s.

I was puzzled by the general critical reaction to this movie, because I felt the same way - it seemed like a fun movie to myself and my daughter.

Fast And Furious. I won't lie, this was the most fun I've had in a while. Vroom vroom. But with a plot! Albeit moderately ridiculous at times still. Good times.

Recently rewatched the Craig Casino Royale, and I really liked the tone and acting (the poker was not well handled and I thought the end dragged, though). But then I read all the Fleming books and liked them.

Rewatched Live and Let Die, which used to be one of my favorite Bond movies. The boat chase is still excellent, though it didn't have anything like the impact it had when it came out. I thought this one really didn't hold up well at all.

Watched The Man with the Golden Gun for the first time. (Which was a bit of a surprise, since I thought I had seen all of the Bond movies from that era.) This struck me as one of the weakest of the franchise. Poor acting, weak villain, silly (even for Bond) plot.

Tried to watch Ant Man and the Wasp. Within about 10 minutes, I realized that the dystopian authoritarian socialist society that the recent movies have been set in has completely destroyed my interest in the franchise and stopped watching. I'm sure that I'd have fun once my brain turned off, since the dialog in all of the movies has been fun and plots have been serviceable, but I just don't want to go to that effort. Maybe some other time I'll feel differently.

We watched Broken Arrow, the John Woo film from 1996 with Travolta and Slater. Very fun action movie, not sure how we missed seeing it when it came out.

Finally watched Black Panther. It was a solid film, but not nearly as great as all the hype would suggest. The whole “civil war” of the last half seemed rediculous in how it was executed within the  film.  I also found the black panther to be the least sympathetic and interesting character in the movie.  However, I loved the armored Rhinos and all of the supporting cast.

I plan to surprise my son by watching into the Spiderverse today. Hoping it isn’t too scary for a 6 year old. He really likes the trailers.

Watched Knights of Badassdom last night. It is very much a geek movie. Lots of stupid fun that won't appeal to anyone who doesn't game or LARP.  It was entertaining enough, but not likely to be something I watch again.

My daughter is 7, and she quite enjoyed it!  And she's not a superhero fan, it was just the only (appropriate) movie we could get into on Christmas day.

My son is 6 and I wasn’t sure if it would be too scary, but he really liked the preview. I told him if he was good we could watch a movie on our big screen projector as a reward. Today he got his reward and he grabbed his Despicable Me movie and I slipped this in instead. He was super excited when it started playing and loved it. He made my wife watch it with him again tonight.

All the quirkiness really worked. So far my top 3 Marvel movies are This, Big Hero 6,  and the first Iron Man.
