What an embarassingly white base. He should just give it to me to hide the shame. :;):

I can't even begin to accept the notion of spending 12 hours on a 'tabletop' piece. I'd never accumulate enough minis to actually play a game!

Her face is great! Kinda meh on the rest of her. I think you should just do metallics too because quick nmm is just so hard. Really though, the face has personality, really nice contrast. It just explodes off of the mini.

Really nice for a 4 hour job

Actually the nmm isn't too bad other than the sword. Other than the cloak, that's the one thing I would've spent a bit more time on.

The face was quick but I did try to make it pop like that. The hair was just a two-pass of oiled leather and some pale yellow, again, just to pop it out. Trying to spend time on focal points; see also: should've spent more time on the sword.

Listen to Derek. :)

The problem with the highlights on the cloak is actually the thickness of them (duh). As a speed painter Dark Elf Highlight is the answer. I use it undiluted and paint fine highlights, think of it as more like little dashes of freehand than a normal highlight. You can apply slightly thicker highlights with Dark Elf Skin and then put the dash of Dark Elf Highlight through it if you want a more detailed look.

I also recommend investigating hatching, its not the most gentle technique always, but it allows a range of textural cheats to speed up things. :)

Good to see you coming back to my standard :p

The sword and the cloak are definitely the weakest points. Totally agree. For reference, I didn't even notice the other nmm. I had to go back to look. It did turn out fine.

I think you were most effective on the face and hair because you didn't try to paint them like you normally would. So the technique fit the time you had.

Technically true, but it's one of those quirks of paint ingredients. Anything with the basic white pigment included throws me almost every time, normally I just glaze midtones to fix it after.

That paint is as thin as what I had been using all afternoon, and it's a great demonstration of the strong opacity of that white pigment.

Just spitballing here, and I've never used the technique, but maybe wet blending would be the answer to better cloak transitions_AND_4 hour time frame? Not sure how effective wet blending might be building up highlights on an elevation (cloak folds) versus the usual "one end to the other" of a particular piece of the model. I'm in with everyone else in that I thought you were going for Ranger Camo. I don't find the nmm of the sword to be glaring at all. I had to study the picture for a while to notice gradation lines. Overall, I think it is 98% successful at answering the question "How can we get through all our Bones Kickstarters in a reasonable time with very good quality?" I bet in 3 or 4 more tries, you'll be posting this as a 2 hour table top piece. Thanks for sharing this and reminding us you're human :)

I keep telling you folks! :)

I'm glad for some of the discussion this has spawned, as there are a lot of things brought up that have been on my mind in general. Even if I'm not stoked about the paint, I am about the conversation.

I've never tried wet blending, another thing to try out at some point!
