Outside of one the Judges aren't Reaper forum folk. It's on purpose so there's no cult of personality winning contests which is what you had back when they were publically voted.

 

As for if I need more--not sure if I'll be running one again any time soon as I don't have the time to promote inside the forums (mostly in the show off section) and so we got about 1/3rd the number of entries we normally do because of that. So I'm not sure if I should really run another one unless I'm 100% sure I can commit the time to raising awareness for the contest.

I think the other problem you ran into here was ReaperCon. People were trying to work on entries for ReaperCon that may not have been seen (by them) as good for the contest here. So it's about the timing and what is going on for a lot of us.

I've done a contest around reapercon every year, so this would be the 4th I believe, and never had issues of low entries. The vast majority of people here don't go to reapercon.

For me it was the spring exchange.  It chewed up too much time to try to get anything else done.

From what I've been reading this year on the forum (and as you all know I spend a lot of time here haha) a heck of a lot more are going from the forums than in previous years. Also, sometimes it's a matter of theme(s) and whether people like or want to participate in some of them. I like things that are theme-less for the most part and to use my own imagination and not try to fit it into a pre-made theme that may or may not inspire me to get something done.

I agree to that but there are also lots of people who never check contests so without someone actively advertising it there's going to be less.

I do hope you decide to run more of these in the not-too-distant future. I feel like it was probably a combination of several things that resulted in fewer entries. Personally, I really enjoy these types of contests, and I really appreciate all the time you put into them!

Normally I enter, but I felt... I don't know, sort of guilty.  I had a hard time with it because while I still think of myself as a newbie in the painting world and I love painting excuses because they're good at pushing me to do things I normally wouldn't, I've gotten to a painting point where I don't want to make others feel like... like I still do on CMON when I look at the pros and how far I still have to go.  I'm in a weird spot of learning, but being good enough to know I should step out of the way to let others grow.  Does that make sense?  Anyway... I would have put more entries in that qualified, but resisted.  So I am sorry, because you should know we all appreciate these and they really helped me learn and grow since I first entered almost 3 years ago!

This is the first time I felt my skill was up to participating in a contest like this (like, actual prizes!) since I've started paying attention to this part of the forum. It also happened to be the first exchange I did. I'm not great with deadlines, so I was really pushing myself.

 

Personally, I would like to participate in more of these. I enjoyed the theme and hope to one day feel up to doing one of the challenge components.

That's part of why I keep my participation low, too, Corporea. Not that I'm anywhere near you and Kuro, but I've won a couple of these so I feel like I should back off.

 

But the idea was too strong for this one :) I also don't think I have the best entry, so that helps...

I still like running them but I think there's room for more contests outside of just mine.  Jasper did a great job last year and so I'd like to do maybe just one and let someone else run one during the summer and then people can end with the year long contest.

 The only reason I got into this and the beauty pageant I did was because of the themes for them - I happened to have an idea that worked or felt like painting the mini(s) involved.
