Going Native: New World Monsters

Recommended Posts

I will also say that I backed his previous KS, and since I started with KS, only his first KS, Reaper Bones I, and a gaming adventure KS, have completely fulfilled everything they promised. Yeah, I'm burned out on KS myself, but this guy has proven himself.

I'm keeping an eye on this as well.  The horned serpent is an impressive sculpt, and I really like the look of the fire serpent (I'm keen on figures with Mesoamerican influence, as it's a very unique look).

I'm in for this one. The sculpts are unique enough that I feel it should be supported. Besides the fellow seems to have a pretty good record. Maybe I can talk him into doING the ewah...

Hmm, again a Paymaster campaign that comes at a bad time for me. I hope I'll be able to do at least the $30 pledge. I really, really like that Sasquatch.

So it looks like we're unlocking things out of order? The front page says we're unlocking the Skinwalkers at $6K, and the Tlahuelpuchi won't be until $9K. Whatever order you choose is fine, but I'd update the front page to reflect that if I were you.

Also, any chance you have a scale shot of Utenka the Great Horned Serpent? It doesn't look that big in the photo, but the price suggests it's one of the biggest.

The Skinwalker is what is being unlocked next. They are showing Tlahuelpuchi as they show three minis to unlock, so each time we unlock one, they will want to show us the new mini that is third in the waiting to unlock line. The wording implies this, but could be more explicit for better clarity as it is really easy to miss when skimming.

There is a PDF on the story page under About the Project that shows the scale of the minis. Direct link to is here. Uktena looks to be a standard humanoid mini and a half tall and a little over two minis wide.

There's a link on the KS front page to a .PDF file showing relative sizes of the creatures to the female hunter figure. The file uses the concept sketches rather than sculpts, but it shows the Horned Serpent to be pretty massive. I think (I am not certain) the green pictured is on a 50mm base, if that helps.

Edit: ninja'd!

It confused me at first as well, but I figured it out looking at the page.

If the update had been structured, We have Unlocked X, New Stretch Goal Z, Next Up Y it would have made more sense to me the first time.

      Andowyn Thrushmoor!
It's been awhile since I've painted a plain ol' character miniature. I spent the better part of today working on her and I’m overall pleased with how she came out. I really want to double my skill level by the time Bones V is delivered and I’m proud of my progress! Slowly but surely figuring out how to do faces, this one looks pretty okay, though her right eye is funky.

Since this is my first form post, the picture is her next to my first miniature! It's about four years old and I keep it around the rest of my collection in a place of honor

If anybody here loves cavern terrain and missed DF's first cavern KS KS2, this spring/summer around June DF will have KS6. The theme of KS6 will be Return to the Caverns and should be great fun for those who took part in KS2 or those who are new to DF.

DF had this to say and showed the below teaser pics

We're doing for Caverns what Dungeon of Doom did for Dungeons. A whole new batch of fun pieces to enhance your existing collection, but also completely stand-alone.

      Some of the key features:
New Core Shapes (diagonal wall, convex curves, 1" pieces, etc)
      Passages
Elevation (with stuff that's impossible on graph paper...)
Negative Space pieces (and new Terrain Trays)
      Flashy Pieces (Magnets & LEDs)
      Large pieces (4x4 and larger)

This looks like a very interesting board game with lots of new, fresh ideas and cool artwork (and nice minis - there is even a pledge level for just the minis: around 15 of them for $20 plus shipping):

      About this project

It's a harsh but lucrative business being a mercenary out on the edge of civilization. You must explore the harsh wilderness and engage in deep tactical combat, where the decisions you make have an impact not only on your own character, but also the world around you.

Gloomhaven is cooperative game of card-driven combat set in a persistent fantasy campaign which will change and grow as you play the game.
There is always more to unlock and explore in the world of Gloomhaven.

If you missed the first Gloomhaven Kickstarter (and retail sold out quickly) here is your chance. I backed that game the first time around and could not be happier with the results. Warning ... that box is heavy ...
