Talos: City of Intrigue and Adventure!

Recommended Posts

Horrik comes up behind the two halflings and claps both men on their shoulders.  "Friends!  It's a perfect day for an invigorating hike is it not?"  Horrik stands tall and takes a deep breath.  "It will be good to get away from this city for a spell.  And bandits, Hah!  We will make short work of them if they dare cross our paths!"  Horrik affectionately pats the massive, rune covered war hammer on his belt.

Turning away, Horrik calls out "Ho! Friend Jeren!  Good morn to you!  Where should we stow our gear?"

"Any day my friend, any day. Show these folks what the true music of our people is really about!" He responds to Nivin.

"Well met Horrik! It seems that some of our fellows didn't quite take your early morning speech so seriously."

Thromdor marches up to the gathering.

"Well met. Anyone know where the rest of our friends be? My axe and my purse both are in need of some use!"

"I haven't seen them." Grinly smiles, "I'm willing to wait though if it means that Rorrik finally found a healer that can remove that stick from where he seems to have it so firmly planted."

As one approaches closer to the wagons, one could hear the distinct snoring of a half-orc on top of bags of food.

Being woken up by the conversation, "Oy, you lot are loud in the morning. Tis spot is no good for sleeping."

Brig hops of the wagon and begin to stretch out the kinks. Looks over the others, "seems you all slept well...meaning you didn't drink enough!" Points at no one in particular and grins.

"Well met and good morning! Heronius smile upon you, and bless your hearts with valor and courage in the coming days!"

Sprinting up to the convoy comes Rorikk, hurried blessing shouted at the rest of the travelers as he passes them. "And good morning to you, my peerless comrades! A blessing upon you, too, and may all the gods smile upon you all your days! I apologize for my lateness - duty called me to reprimand some few rapscallions who chose to take liberty with a young man outside my window last night, and I quite overslept." He pats the knuckles of his right hand lightly; you can see that they are quite bruised and a little bloodied, but he seems otherwise hale. "But I'm sure they've learned a little thing or two of honor by this morn, and they'll not soon forget what it expects of a man! Truely, Heronius is compassionate, to allow me to be such a vessel of his word." He grins.

"So, are we soon to set out? For sooth, even the tireless messenger may weary, but a cart's as good as a bed to a man who spreads Truth!"

Third bell sounds, first from the Red Keep, then from the bell towers scattered throughout the rest of the city.

Jeren looks about but neither Judas nor Thromdor make an appearance.  After another quarter bell's wait, he shrugs and motions the drovers to depart.

The journey starts off on the King's Road, which cuts through the fields and estates that surround the city.  The groups passes through fields of grain, and olive and citrus groves.  Every so often, a side road connects with the King's Road.  At first these roads are clear and well kept.  As the hours pass and the city fades in the distance, these roads start to sprout weeds, and edges appear to be encroached upon by the surrounding vegetation.

The surrounding terrain becomes increasing rocky and the road begins to climb.  After four uneventful hours, Jeren turns the caravan down a side road.  It is overgrown, but shows some sign of recent use, most likely by the previous supply run.

Brig rides and occasionally stands on the third wagon, taking in the sights and sounds. When they approach the overgrowth, Brig hops off the wagon and moves in the space between the third and fourth wagon, having his hands at the hilt of his rapier and short sword.

Rorrikk settles down in the first cart, crossbow besides him. Pulling his hood over his head, he dozes off. After the first hour or two, though, he awakens and flips around to perch on the edge of the cart, legs swinging as the group trundles along, and chat with the drover driving.

Grimly walks beside the middle cart. He keeps his eyes looking outward even as he begins to tease the strings of his lute. He nods his head and smiles as his fingers strike up a slightly upbeat tune fit for a morning march.

The rest of the afternoon passes uneventfully.  The track eventually makes it's way to an area that has been cleared on the right.  To the east a beaten dirt path disappears into the overgrowth while the rough road you have been following continues to the northwest.

In the clearing is a ring of stones, blackened with soot, obviously a fire pit that has seen much use.  Not far away is another ring of stones, these stacked about two feet high, with a wooden cover perched atop.

Jeren motions for the supply convoy to halt.  "We'll be stopping here for the night.  This well," he says, pointing at the covered stones "is one of the only sources of water in the area, and the oxen can drink their fill."

Horrik heads over to the well, removes the cover and hauls up the bucket, pouring the cool water over his head as he drinks deeply.  "Ahh, now that's what's needed to get the road dust off."

"Ya big lug, it's meant t' go in yer mouth, not on yer 'ead!" Nivin jokes. Taking a seat by the wagons, he pulls his flute out and starts playing a soothing tune. However, the journey has left his fingers uncertain, and after several squeaky bad notes, he puts the flute down, embarrassed.

"Oh my an invigorating stroll indeed. If only we were greeted by a nice warm bowl of hearty stew, a few nice pints of ale or some honeyed mead and a cozy feather bed for the evening, I would say the day was almost perfect." Grinly exclaims as he walks to the well to get a drink himself. Swallowing a mouthful of the cool water he continues, "Though a crackling fire, a little music and some good company will be a welcome pause as well."

As Nivin sheepishly puts his instrument away Grinly warmly claps him on the back. "Don't despair your fingers will nimble up in short order, I'll play a slow easy tune later so we can both get some good practice."

Compelling 5th Edition Challenges For CR1 to CR5

This small project is to fund a collection of little encounters that can be dropped into an existing adventure for low level adventurers.  I backed his previous project for alternate character backgrounds, and he delivered the PDFs early.

The Grand Duchy of Reme awaits!
Starting in 2002 Necromancer Games began populating its Lost Lands campaign setting one adventure at a time. The Grand Duchy of Reme is the region home to classic adventures released by Necromancer Games for D20/3.x and Frog God Games for Pathfinder, Swords & Wizardry and Fifth Edition.
More than 10 adventures have brought life to the Grand Duchy of Reme. The Lost Lands Campaign Sourcebook funded in January is expected to be over 700 pages and all of them are full of information. By necessity each region was described broadly, but there are still a wealth of history, politics and other details to be explored, experience and expanded in the Grand Duchy of Reme.
The Grand Duchy of Reme is a system neutral hardcover volume designed to be useful for campaigns independent of system preference. Specific details that affect the characters in the Lost Lands there are System Encounter Books. These companion volumes are softcover (or PDF), that contain reference stats for use with the Region book along with detailed encounter tables for the region.
Additionally, 3 classic adventures previously unavailable for Pathfinder, Swords & Wizardry, and Fifth Edition are back. These are offered as either softcover add-ons in backerkit or as free stretch goals in PDF (see reward sidebar).
Mock-up of Grand Duchy of Reme. Final release will differ slightly The city of Reme itself is ancient, with world-spanning trade — the eternal citadel of the Loreclans, where the ashes of legendary barbarian kings reside. This land lies near the slow collapse of the nearby Empire of Foere, and the rise of Bard’s Gate to the East. The Rhemish watch these events with cold eyes rather than concern, for they live in vast regions that devour invaders. Their land is eternal; their people can be forced back to the plains, but in the plains they can abide for as long as need be. They are — as a people — the ultimate hunters. The fall of Foere is like the fall of an antelope upon the plains; the rise of Bard’s Gate is little more than the stepping-up of jackals before the body. The Grand Duchy of Reme simply waits and watches — for Reme is the dwelling-place of the world’s wolves.
Reme is a unique fantasy civilization whose structure is determined by the one overriding fact of its geography — the country is a vast, grassland plain. The realm is dominated by the culture of the ancient Loreclans: the urbanized and settled ones, and the nomadic clans of the interior. The Loreclans owe a certain fealty to the Dukes of Reme, who are the final arbiters of the ancient law of the plains, but between the Loreclans and the Dukes there are also the mysterious Pashtars: arbiters, judges, and mediators who roam the plains where their service takes them.
The city of Reme, of course, is one of the wonders of the world of the Lost Lands, home of powerful spell-casters and perhaps the greatest mercantile and war fleets of the Crescent Sea. It is also, however, steeped in the culture of the vast plains of the interior. It is a place where assumptions are dangerous, for it is no standard fantasy environment — it is a culture that will be entirely new and foreign to your players, a place to truly explore as well as adventure.

So pre-launch (I think October). Just under 2000 copies are already printed and will ship after the pledge manager closes. More supporters will be part of a second print run for January 2020. About 30US$ to ship to Canada for a softcover & pdf. Also the option exists to back in advance for the 3 follow up adventures. That seems to be at a 5$ discount from the first module.

Sorry if I've missed seeing this one.  It's the latest KS from Agate/Studio 2.  This time it's not Esteren but the project that Iris has been working on.  It sounds like it is pretty well done in French, so this project is to finance printing of the English edition.

Anyone here backing this one? I missed the first one, of Feyland, but there's a level where you can get both books. I don't have a ton of physical 3rd party 5e stuff so I'm down for it.
