Pegazus
Not for buildings and such. Plus the cheapest 3d printer that can do resolutions for 0scale are 10k. I going to have to agree with this. I can't even imagine how long it would take to produce a building in 15mm let alone in 28mm. For buildings laser cutters are definitely the way to go. Well, with the laser cutter, you've already committed to assembling flat pieces, so my thought was to do the same on the 3d printer, with the added bonus of being able to put a texture and all the fiddly bits directly on the piece. Brick, stone, wood, etc. Those would all be the outside/top. And the worst precision is the XY axis, with Z being much more accurate, so all the details should be rather attractive. But maybe there's something I'm missing? Just that's thousands that could be used elsewhere. Opinion.
Sergeant_Crunch
For me, the learning curve for 3D sculpting software was steeper than the learning curve for 2D design. Thankfully I can visualize how a collection of 2D pieces can be combined to make 3D things.
Heisler
I'm thinking that the main issue is the time involved in making a 3D print to begin with. The laser is going to give you the benefit of "mass production" that you can't get with the 3D printer. Plus you can add a lot of detail using a laser cutter. Check out Monster Model Works, a model railroad company, and see what they are doing with their laser cutters.
Doug Sundseth
Sorry, looking at my response it could be taken as a bit stand-offish. Not my intent at all. It's actually pretty cool to know that one of the founders is "One of Us." No worries. If you ever find yourself in Denver, I can probably arrange to introduce you. Sergeant_Crunch
I don't know that I can be in Denver. I'd eventually get arrested for attempting to demolish the Bronco's facilities.

I wonder if your reaction to the events in the novel The Sum of all Fears is different than most... Also, you people need to stop filling me with model railroad lusts until I acquire the necessary real estate for Tiny Town. It's torture. TYVM.

buglips*the*goblin
Never read that one. The Super Bowl in Denver gets dirty nuked.

Doug Sundseth
Fortunately, the movie made a better choice of location.
Sergeant_Crunch
Didn't watch the movie either. Not a fan of the genre in general.
Sergeant_Crunch
Anyway, the tricky part about owning a laser in West Texas is keeping the water from evaporating out of the shark tank.
buglips*the*goblin
I just realized that if you take the sum of time and effort expended in planning, research, and notes, that the overwhelming amount of same in any single project for me is my as-yet unbuilt model railroad. It could thusly, in essence, lay claim to being my life's work - without a single scale spike yet driven nor tie yet laid. I'm not sure if this is very sad or really awesome. I need a basement.
MonkeySloth
Thanks everyone. So those with the nice cutters how are they in terms of babysitting? I know with the lasorsaurious (the KSer one that Renaissance uses) you need to watch it as you're using it and readjust bands for the alignment every hour or two.
