So I wanted to start this as a poll but I guess only the admins are allowed to start polls so we'll just make this a thread. I was wondering what color people use to prime thier minis.

Black

White

Grey

Other

Also explain a bit why.

I use white because I like the vibrant colors it produces and I can see the details a bit better then I can with black, but that's probably because I'm an old man lol.

I started using gray spray on primer but now I use white gesso. I use white cuz it's easy to find and if I want a different color all I had to do is either mix it with the gesso or add a base coat after it's dry.

I still use the spray if I have a large number of figures to prime all at once or if I'm priming a large model (those demon lord guys are rather difficult to brush primer on what with all the nooks n crannies n stuff...

Heheh.... guess it's a popular topic then.. :;):

I use grey cause. I can get an etch primer in it which is matt, and dries in 5 mintutes, is very thin, so detail isn't obscured and it allows you to go dark or light easily.

Black it's hard to see the detail.

White I could only get gloss, and it occassionally bubbled when sealant was sprayed over it.

I use black, but it's not your average paint...

1 - I use my airbrush,

2 - I use Gunze Sangyo Flat Black (H12)

I do not have any problems with obscuring details, etc, and I have more than enough light to take care of any problems with edging, details, etc. ::D:

Well I have Grey Krylon that I use on large things like Dragons and other ugly monsters. I tend to only use grey on minis if the weather is good enough for large amounts of spray priming. Otherwise I use paint on white Primer by Reaper for the regular minis. If there is an area that I need a darker priming under I use really thin black paint over the white primer.

I use a clear brush on medium; FolkArt Glass & Tile Medium to be precise. I tint it slightly with ink, color dependent on the task at hand, thin approximately 1:1 with distilled water and merrily brush away. This stuff dries hard, toothy and dead flat. The slight ink tint tends to gather in the recesses, providing step one of shadows.

In an emergency (freezing my tail off), this same medium, sans ink, works just fine for a flat sealer as well.

I don't use a spray primer color.

ever since I found that technique on CMON,about clear coating.

I have never went back.

One good shot of citadel clear coat.(matte finish)

and I am good to go. It forces me to keep my paints thin. does'nt obscure detail, and I don't rub it off when trying to hadle the mini.

after base coating,or doing something particulary intricate,I shoot it again.

black line with my pens, finish up the detail, and seal it off.

and hopefully not get fumigated in the process.

I use mostly white or black depending on what I am painting. I get good results using krylon and plastickote primers. I have learned never buy walmart brand paint. I bought four cans of there primers and have had nothing but bad luck three cans were bad from the get go stringy when spraying looked like spiderwebs when it sprayed and the fourth had no propellent after 2 sprays, I am talking short term use too not lots of spraying grrrrrrr. thought I was saving money oh well. I spray year round trick is heat that can up with hot not boiling water and shake and go out quickly and back in quickly, eliminates need to brush on. I would do everything with an air brush but they are too small hehehe.:blues:
