[MERGED] Bones II Shipping Excitement/Wave

Speaking of fees, duties etc.

He has to pay $31.50 customs fee/duties, $25 handling fee (by the postal service) and $180 VAT. The package I'm expecting is 2.5 times as big as his (weight wise). I'm a bit scared as to how much that'll add up to in fees and taxes.:unsure:

WOW!  ::o:

Where do you live again??

Hurray for Belgian punctuality!  ::(:

While a Dutch wave1 backer has his package, mine only entered customs yesterday?

At least I got an update from UPS (2 updates on 1 box!)

One of my boxes seem to be on an enternal journey (full shipment progress):

Location - Date - Activity

Belgium    - 02/26/2015 - Package arrived at foreign customs office

Belgium    - 02/26/2015 - Package arrived at international carrier

Belgium    - 02/21/2015 - Package departed international carrier facility

Belgium    - 02/19/2015 - Shipment Acceptance at international carrier

Bonesville - 02/18/2015 - Package received for processing by UPS Mail Innovations

(Shipment notification : 02/13/2015)

The other package that was sent at the same time, is still departing the international carrier facility, so I assume that one's lost on its eternal journey :)

I'm a bit clueless about what's happening with my bones - 5 days between departing and arriving - and according to the location, both should be in Belgium...

I can drive from one end of Belgium to the other in less then a day! :P

My guess : Europe

This is why most kickstarters are now trying to send from within Europe - to cancel out customs for the European backers.

I just used a import duty calculator, and if everything is declared correctly on my packages, I'm facing the following fees :

Duty : â‚¬42.54

VAT : €199

+ the handling cost.

I'm afraid tho, because there are 2 packages coming my way, that I'll be paying the handling cost twice + twice the rounding errors

Denmark. Yes, we have a 25% VAT (I dont' really mind paying duties and VAT - although if things are shipped from within the EU then I don't have to pay them, or rather, I'd have to pay the originating country's VAT. It's the $25 handling fee I'm mostly tired off, especially when I have to pay it in order to pay e.g. $4 duties on cheaper things from outside the EU).

Ahh, that's right. I knew you told me that before.

Guess, Americans are spoiled we don't have all those duties and VAT to pay on things to be shipped to us from Europe or anywhere else in the world.

After shipping from Reaper around the 13th, mine is also in schrodinger-ville.

New Zealand    02/19/2015 1:46 P.M. Shipment Acceptance at international carrier

Bensenville, IL, United States   02/18/2015 2:29 P.M. Package received for processing by UPS Mail Innovations

Quantum tunnelling has occurred, my box has moved in both space and time.

New Zealand 02/26/2015 10:29 A.M. Package arrived at international carrier

New Zealand 02/22/2015 10:48 A.M. Package departed international carrier facility

I'm assuming this means 4 days to fly to NZ and get checked-in to a warehouse.

I'm hoping they mean 'local time' of the scan (3 days transit +1 day crossing the dateline) which means this was Thurs NZ time which is yesterday!

Which could mean I have a box or failed-delivery card waiting at home...

If not, the airport is close, only a few hundred warehouses out there, can't be more than a few million square meters of storage to search using my mad-ninja-goat skills... let me know if anyone hears me trip a silent alarm.

They're here!

W1 and W2 to Auckland, New Zealand. Both arrived at the same time. Both showing delivered (after the fact) on UPS-MI Tracking, last status before that was "Package arrived at international carrier".

No tax or duty issues (huzzah), both packages were borderline for the duty free threshold - hence two pledges/shipments.

I'm just going out to open my bones now, I may be some time...

EDIT: Some time later...

Thank you ReaperClark and Shannon!

All checked off and looking great. Danel's hand is a feature!

Have an extra I can't account for, 50mm circular base with bits of broken columns in Exp 2. It's lovely but I've no idea what it goes with.

Suffering from bonechitis/miniadhd/minifugue bones overload - I don't know where to start.  And I only got about 10 lbs, for those with bigger orders, start investing in bones-counselling, maybe join a support group, Reaper help you all!

I figured I'd chime in and also update on my progress.

Like the other Canucks in this thread I'm seeing a time dilation effect (large masses of Bonesium have been known to cause space-time warping, this is a well-studied effect).  Either that, or the monkey in charge of manually updating the tracking database has come back from vacation.

In either case, as of 3 hours ago my status has been updated with 5 days worth of update backlog (oh, yes we were updating  your package all this time sir!) and my status is now "Package arrived at foreign customs office", with the location helpfully being specified as "CANADA".  Likely this is Toronto (which, along with Montreal, may as well constitute the entirety of Canada to many Americans).  So probably 4-5 days more yet before it gets here.  Nothing says "efficient, and effective mail service" like taking 3 weeks to deliver a package and retroactively updating your tracking. <_<

Side note: Does anyone know why a package would ship to Toronto instead of through Sweetgrass if the destination is AB?

Side, side note: Just saw the last post.  "Canada: farther away than Australia"

Yeah, Wave 3 showing as delivered In New Zealand, no Customs duties paid as it was under the minimum they collect (depending on exchange rate, worked out to about $240 US at the time of the Kickstarter)

Wave 6 order in transit looks like delivery Monday if it follows the same pattern.

Hearing all those horror stories about high duties and VAT charges make me realy happy that i have relatives in the us who were kind enough to act as a proxy for me :-) I'll have to wait  longer then the rest of you, but by breaking up the awesome bones shipment into  smaler packages and sending them from privat person to privat person I'll won't have to pay those exorbitant fees :-)

Just got a phone call from the hubby as he was driving back from the post office with a box'o'bones ( wave 1, Sydney). Box opening party tonight

And it is me again...quoting myself.

We have just gone through our pledge, and everything is perfect.  We even got a little extra pressie in the Thank You set, a stalagmite.

Thanks Reaper, good job, well done.

Edit: little trick for checking the core box: get a battlemat out and draw an area for each of the sets (eg dungeon dressing, savage worlds, etc), sort everything into their sets, then check them.  Much easier (we just checked of 3 core sets using this method)

Every so often, a model catches my attention. Sometimes because it is excellent and inspiring, sometimes because there is something off about it. Sometimes the model is both.  Here is one such example:

Yeah, it is the angle of the buckler thats just wrong. It simply should not happen. It triggers my OCD.
This is the "Gnoll Warrior" from the "Thank You pack" add-on in the second Bones kickstarter. During the kickstarter it was presented as a line concept drawing and as is usually the case, the resulting miniature ends up slightly different. Still a perfectly good representation of the original concept art, but anyhow.
That said, I do understand that one-piece castability requires certain angles and alignments for the mould to work, and to get the detail in the shield to show it cannot be sideways in the mould. There have been plenty of examples of minis in strange poses and/or holding things at strange angles because of this.
This Gnoll is also stylistically rather different from the other Gnolls Reaper makes in Bones, perhaps it's just not so comic-like?
      But I ramble.
The other day as I yet again was perusing the Drawers of Doom™, I picked this one for the painting table. But first it got to meet Mr. Scalpel for a field amputation followed by a quick rotation and graft:
One drop of superglue later the case of the misaligned buckler was solved.
Add a base and some paint:

Good thing classic Bones material is really easy to slice and reposition. Such an excellent material for convertions as well.

Jagged white parallells of sharp fangs emerged into the campfire light, then a staring yellow eye. Inquisitive, roughly probing clawed fingers followed. Snorting, foul breath enveloped me, causing me to gag.
It jerked its beast-like head back, loud barks of mocking laughter spraying spittle in my face as I tried to stand my ground.
"I smell fright, little man", the gnoll rasped out at last. "Why's that parlay-totem here?"

This mini was finished September 12th 2020.

The last few weeks have been very busy with very little time or inspiration to paint, as the general lack of posts lately will bear full witness to.

As you might imagine, I was going for green magical flames.  I struggled with this, and it did not turn out as I had envisioned it.
This one I count as a bit of a failure, and I am not at all satisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I will repaint the whole thing at some point but for now I am rather sick of it.
At leaast it does look much better IRL on the table than when magnified in photos. Somthing which is a small comfort. The white for "teeth" does not work at all in the pictures and I might just redo that part and leave the rest alone. Or not. The wierd thing is that the white "teeth" are not that bad IRL. But once seen, it cannot be unseen...

      What is this sorcery?!
Gah! Even the captions are uninspired. I should probably just go to bed.

Here is my Kanjira. The pose of the monster made me think it could be a good idea too make it emerge through the Trees. A vision of Knightmare, for sure.

Also did a quick speed paint of two statues. Not sure were the other column is at the moment, but this one was out while I was painting the angel of death so it got paint too.

She fit very snuggly into that base. I'm debating whether or not she'll stay in it.

The pair. Also the angel without the base.
