[MERGED] Bones II Shipping Excitement/Wave

Recommended Posts

It's not impossible that I should get mine by Friday, with a Wave I package.  if it goes out the first day, it could potentially make the journey that quickly.  Realistically, though, I'm expecting it early next week.

If they hit their estimate of ~1000/day then there is about a 50% chance of any early bird shipping on Monday.  In my case, I locked in so fast I imagine that I am definitely in the first 50% of lock-ins.  So long as they hit their shipping estimates then I will have mine Thursday or Friday. :D

I'm tempted to try and estimate, but i don't dare...

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! (Back into your head it goes...)

1) I totally regret not buying DDS2. I bought the dragon and the heroes separate. Now I totally want the terrain and box. I'm sure a few will be on ebay soon and retail later...

2) It looks like alot of the minis are in bags of 10-30 together, rather then individually wrapped (except the larger ones). Is that correct? If so I like the change, as yesterday I took it upon myself to unwrap the ummm 20... yea 20... minis that were still in bags from my vampire box. It took almost 30 minutes and filled a quarter of a trash bag.

Correct. The multi part mini are bagged parts together. Many of the bundled minis are in one bag. Some of the bags I opened and consolidated before the pic.

I locked in my pledge in January. I hope it doesn't knock me into Tuesday shipping. Packages normally take five days to arrive here. That means Monday shipping likely shows up Saturday, but Tuesday shipping likely means after the holiday weekend for arrival.

My daughter wanted to paint but I wanted to pilfer a bit and look over the loot more. So I set her up to paint the Great Worm she got for birthday while I opened the Core box and Expansion 1 box. Just to show you how much is packed in these boxes...

Core Box:

Expansion Box:

My wife was taking an interest into some of the minis in the expansion set.  I don't see her ever wanting to paint them since she is too busy with her nail/mani art.

Edit: Oh I did go through all 24 paints and added them to my list with my daughter who loves to call out the numbers.  I got her to say some of the paint names but since she is 5 and just learning to read she gets a bit shy when the word has more than 3-4 letters in it.  BTW, I need a better storage for paints and moving them around.  The Bones Learn To Paint kit and the thing under it are now full.

Oooh, Mashaaf is a *big* girl!

Is that the gelatinous cube you got there? It looks to be in more parts than just cube and base.

I think Mr. Cube comes with a few similarly transparent slimes/jellies/oozes.

And it is in parts.  2 to be exact.  I am not going to even try and clue them until I see what others do.

Forgot about the question on the cube since I was out playing poker when I read it on my phone last night. :)

The cube is in two parts, I believe, so you can put a human sized mini inside of it.

Huh, I thought that the two pieces were a big hollow shell of a body and a smaller base with digested bones that goes under it.

But from the initial picture, it seems a bit more complex.

Every so often, a model catches my attention. Sometimes because it is excellent and inspiring, sometimes because there is something off about it. Sometimes the model is both.  Here is one such example:

Yeah, it is the angle of the buckler thats just wrong. It simply should not happen. It triggers my OCD.
This is the "Gnoll Warrior" from the "Thank You pack" add-on in the second Bones kickstarter. During the kickstarter it was presented as a line concept drawing and as is usually the case, the resulting miniature ends up slightly different. Still a perfectly good representation of the original concept art, but anyhow.
That said, I do understand that one-piece castability requires certain angles and alignments for the mould to work, and to get the detail in the shield to show it cannot be sideways in the mould. There have been plenty of examples of minis in strange poses and/or holding things at strange angles because of this.
This Gnoll is also stylistically rather different from the other Gnolls Reaper makes in Bones, perhaps it's just not so comic-like?
      But I ramble.
The other day as I yet again was perusing the Drawers of Doom™, I picked this one for the painting table. But first it got to meet Mr. Scalpel for a field amputation followed by a quick rotation and graft:
One drop of superglue later the case of the misaligned buckler was solved.
Add a base and some paint:

Good thing classic Bones material is really easy to slice and reposition. Such an excellent material for convertions as well.

Jagged white parallells of sharp fangs emerged into the campfire light, then a staring yellow eye. Inquisitive, roughly probing clawed fingers followed. Snorting, foul breath enveloped me, causing me to gag.
It jerked its beast-like head back, loud barks of mocking laughter spraying spittle in my face as I tried to stand my ground.
"I smell fright, little man", the gnoll rasped out at last. "Why's that parlay-totem here?"

This mini was finished September 12th 2020.

The last few weeks have been very busy with very little time or inspiration to paint, as the general lack of posts lately will bear full witness to.

As you might imagine, I was going for green magical flames.  I struggled with this, and it did not turn out as I had envisioned it.
This one I count as a bit of a failure, and I am not at all satisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I will repaint the whole thing at some point but for now I am rather sick of it.
At leaast it does look much better IRL on the table than when magnified in photos. Somthing which is a small comfort. The white for "teeth" does not work at all in the pictures and I might just redo that part and leave the rest alone. Or not. The wierd thing is that the white "teeth" are not that bad IRL. But once seen, it cannot be unseen...

      What is this sorcery?!
Gah! Even the captions are uninspired. I should probably just go to bed.

      Your basic normal-sized wolf:

      And Black Panther.

Alas, the fangs I painstakingly painted in do not show up in the photo.

Here is my Kanjira. The pose of the monster made me think it could be a good idea too make it emerge through the Trees. A vision of Knightmare, for sure.

Also did a quick speed paint of two statues. Not sure were the other column is at the moment, but this one was out while I was painting the angel of death so it got paint too.

She fit very snuggly into that base. I'm debating whether or not she'll stay in it.

The pair. Also the angel without the base.
