About this project

1300ebaf36274b0dfc89660423e82623_large.p AKO DICE

Hi, everyone! My name is Kacha. While my educational background is in architecture I have always been passionate about product design. I was fortunate enough to have great supports with my previous 2 funded Kickstarter projects (Mochi & Zen Dice), and was able to create my website store at : http://www.monkeyteam.net/. After these 2 projects, I realized that creating unique designs is something I really enjoy. I hope to bring yet another new project with unique “spin†to traditional dice which I call it "AKO DICE". The Impact:

The use of dice has been recorded to ancient times. The oldest known dice were excavated as part of a 5000-year-old backgammon set at the Burnt City, an archaeological site in south-eastern Iran Dice collecting began with the popularity of the Dungeon & Dragons series of board/role playing games. Since it's inception, players have grown attached to and have collected a wide variety of dice. This started a trend in unique dice designs incorporating various aspects of the gaming world and tapping into themes such as space, fantasy, and more.

For the newest design, I have taken the traditional dice and turned it on it's head. I am using a simple idea, yet complex design concept. The new design is inspired by new age concepts, and has a sleek, space-age, cutting-edge technology style. AKO DICE takes the traditional dice design and improves upon it for a trendy, one of a kind design perfect for all gamers as well as collectors.

The thing about dice, like watch and clock faces, is that I want them to be easily readable at a glance, which I don't find these dice are.

Don't misunderstand me. I understand how to read them, it's just the process takes a moment or two too long.

Another pass for me.

Are they balanced? Why does the spinning GIF image on the KS page seem to change where the sides are, optical illusion? I swear the six is only opposite the 1 on every other spin around.

Other than the above concerns, they look cool.

EDIT: First update and FAQ confirms, NOT balanced. I don't see any mention of which side is specifically heavier though.

Definitely like the look of them, though I agree that they would not be useful for wargames or D&D fireballs where you need to count results quickly. The third update has some more information on the center of mass (they claim the deviation is minor/within typical dice manufacturing error), but no actual trials or suggestion of what kind of deviations to expect.

Between balancing and design the practicality is low but I do really like the style. I'm not going to even look at shipping though, past experience on dice kickstarters suggests it's not economical for international unless buying a load.

I think they are doing free world-wide shipping.

Well so they are.... now I'm tempted....
