Jungle Lord - Tin Man Miniatures

Recommended Posts

I like it, but you've got to work on your pics before I can give any feedback. Too difficult to see what's going on in detail.

Add another light, pull the camera back, make sure it's in focus, etc.

best base yet!  Like cash said, I need better pics to be able to comment on your paint work.  Looks great though!  I suffer the same malady, pictures are hard.

I do agree maybe outside would work best? But from what I can gather you did an overall good job :upside:

Nah, it's his camera I think, not the lighting in general. The images are pretty small if you look at them (50-60 KBs) so they aren't very well defined in detail since they are lacking the pixels. Either the camera settings are taking too low of resolution of pictures or he needs a better camera.

nicely done jay.  Because of the pictures I can't really tell if you have any highlights in the hair.  I can see the definition in the skin tone but the hair is not showing it in the pics.

This one would be worth having a friend take a pic for you if they have a better camera.  Just to show us the work you have done which I think is really there.

On the topic of photography... Has anyone tried a Foldio?  I was sad when i realized i missed thier 2nd KS as well, but i may just have to pick one of these up at retail price - seems like a very cool simple solution that will handle almost everything we do here perfectly

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I'm glad that he turned out the way he did, I was afraid he was going to be a Malibu Surfer !!

As to the photos.  I  was trying to keep within the guidelines of the Thread and keep the bit count down:

1. Stick with gifs and jpegs. Windows IE doesn't like png and Macs don't like bmp.
2. File size is limited to 150k. If you can't get your image down below 150k, ask around. There are a number of people who can probably help out around here.
3. Please keep 'em small (or smallish, anyway)... most folks are using modems to connect and a page full of 30 and 50k images is going to lead to significant load times. Just because you're allowed 150k doesn't mean you have to use all of it all the time. ik_wink.gif

I am using my cellphone on a tripod, and taking photos 20 inches away, which means that I have 1.5 M of photo that I am cropping.

In my next posting I'll make it point to use more light, and see if I can get more detail with a magnified shot.

While I would recommend following any guidelines posted here...those are pretty archaic. PNG and BMP haven't been an issue for ages.

I personally try to keep things in the 300-600 pixel range (long edge) and at 85-90% jpg quality. My WIP photos are with my cell phone, so it's possible to get fairly sharp pics with one (though admittedly I have a Galaxy 5 which has a decent camera).

DO NOT try to zoom in with the camera, it's all digital zoom on cell phones, which is bad.

If you want to work on this with test shots, etc, hit up the Shutterbug subforum. Read up what's already there and post any questions you may have. And then summon Doug Sundseth and do what he says :p

I took a batch of new photo's, even switched to a canon digital I had, and the results were HORRIBLE !

I'm just going to chalk this up to star alignment, Fairy activity, and plain ole "Tain't Happening" for whatever reason.

Maybe its the color's of the flesh; but for whatever reason, its NOT getting sharper, or clearer.

Le Sigh.

Lets see what the next mini does..

I believe those are very outdated with the 150k limits, you (I believe) are the only one who abides by them. Mine are usually 1.5mb to 2.5mb each and Reaper admin has never said a word about it or removed any pics. Everyone else also have much better pics with those higher resolution pics downloaded directly to the Forum or hosted somewhere else.

ETA -

I just posted in the Guidelines section since it is 11 years old and talks of modems and load times! Sheesh, way outdated. Hopefully Kit or Bryan will get it updated with what they do want.

Painted this dwarf after he inspired me to write a D&D adventure.  It's a really cool fig with plenty of neat little details.  Comments and critiques are always welcome!  Thanks in advance!

"I have great admiration for the Norse mythology, and I find the style behind this culture fascinating. So, I decided that my third Kickstarter project should be related to this style that I admire so much. On this opportunity, I will present some characters to you that I hold very dear. These Norse Goddesses are among my most recent personal creation, and I hope you like them as much as I do."

Like the post title states this is a set called Agamemnon and the Minotaur by Northumbrian Tin Soldier. I’m not all that good with photo skills so it’s rather hard to see that I did the Minotaur in a black & white milk cow theme.

Fun model though and goes back to the 80s cult classic Time Bandits (I really need to watch that movie again).

This is another bogle for Monster Blood Tattoo though it happens to look a lot like an especially large werewolf.

First the sculpt:  Although fur is often difficult to clean the parting line on this one was largely invisible to begin with.

Second the paint:  It lent itself to a simple drybrush, but I've gone for such dark colors it doesn't show up in the photo.

Third the question:  I just glued it to a round base today and can't decide how I should finish the base.  It's going to be used in tabletop skirmish games so it doesn't need anything fancy.  I just can't decide between gluing on sand and little rocks, applying resin sand gel, or using Apoxie Sculpt to build up the circular base to the level of the stock base.  Opinions?  Pros & cons?
