Barbarian Hordes by Red Box Games (KS #6)

Recommended Posts

I like the idea of some sort of mostly shaved thing. I don't know how I feel about totally bald... It was my first reaction but on reflection I don't know how it would look. But I'm seriously living the way they look.

I'm not so much a fan of the breast plates or the spikes that are going on them, and a reduction in the cleavage would be cool - but these are pretty minor quibbles. I think that they're looking great and I'm definitely getting all of them!

I can see why the spikes and armor as is would be intimidating when said warriors charge down the field at you.

When I see the Jotun I'll probably back.

If taking suggestions?

How about some war hounds for the barbarians? Something to drive the things the barbarians hunt out of the bush.

As for suggestions, once the already announced units are funded, of course, here's what I proposed when Tre asked on his FB page some days ago:

In the Helsvakt vein: Helsvakt Beasts, e.g. dogs (Helhounds?) specially bred for war (larger, fiercer, wicked teeth, bone spikes perhaps or even mutations (two-headed dogs?)). Larger war beasts, either semi-wild (need prodders/handlers too, of course) or more domesticated and used as mounts/work animals.
A lot of it depends on which direction you want to take them. This is also a big prod to release some more material about the setting you have in mind behind all of the factions. :poke:
No, seriously, I want to know more and use it as a role playing setting. ::D:

Besides Helsvakt: Aenglish! Same treatment as the Helsvakt (commander, mounted and on foot etc.). More footmen (very useful for city guards in RPGs too).
Halflings! The ones you (almost?) finished for the last one + more.
Njorn archers, i.e. more standard troop types.

Have you thought about more factions or are you satisfied with the ones you have now? Maybe you have more in mind, but want to "finish" the factions you've started on first?
I was thinking some warmer climate factions, e.g. Middle Eastern/Persian/North African types - robes, scimitars/great scimitars, helmets with fine chainmail veils etc.

I want the etc. there to be desert elf barbarians . . . with spiked chains . . .  preciouseseses . . . .

I'm kindly feeling all-in on the deserty idea. Sounds like a big project, though.

Are there any Helsvakt bards? I'm imagining what one would look like . . . .

I'm a fan of the cleavage :)

Then again I am also a big Frazetta/Brom/Bisley fan, so yeah... fierce chicks with boobs.

      Andowyn Thrushmoor!
It's been awhile since I've painted a plain ol' character miniature. I spent the better part of today working on her and I’m overall pleased with how she came out. I really want to double my skill level by the time Bones V is delivered and I’m proud of my progress! Slowly but surely figuring out how to do faces, this one looks pretty okay, though her right eye is funky.

Since this is my first form post, the picture is her next to my first miniature! It's about four years old and I keep it around the rest of my collection in a place of honor

If anybody here loves cavern terrain and missed DF's first cavern KS KS2, this spring/summer around June DF will have KS6. The theme of KS6 will be Return to the Caverns and should be great fun for those who took part in KS2 or those who are new to DF.

DF had this to say and showed the below teaser pics

We're doing for Caverns what Dungeon of Doom did for Dungeons. A whole new batch of fun pieces to enhance your existing collection, but also completely stand-alone.

      Some of the key features:
New Core Shapes (diagonal wall, convex curves, 1" pieces, etc)
      Passages
Elevation (with stuff that's impossible on graph paper...)
Negative Space pieces (and new Terrain Trays)
      Flashy Pieces (Magnets & LEDs)
      Large pieces (4x4 and larger)

This looks like a very interesting board game with lots of new, fresh ideas and cool artwork (and nice minis - there is even a pledge level for just the minis: around 15 of them for $20 plus shipping):

      About this project

It's a harsh but lucrative business being a mercenary out on the edge of civilization. You must explore the harsh wilderness and engage in deep tactical combat, where the decisions you make have an impact not only on your own character, but also the world around you.

Gloomhaven is cooperative game of card-driven combat set in a persistent fantasy campaign which will change and grow as you play the game.
There is always more to unlock and explore in the world of Gloomhaven.

If you missed the first Gloomhaven Kickstarter (and retail sold out quickly) here is your chance. I backed that game the first time around and could not be happier with the results. Warning ... that box is heavy ...
