Darkrelease
Ok what's the deal with this. I am getting tired of looking through auctions on ebay with the words pro painted and the figures look like they were done by my 3 year old niece in five minutes. I mean I understand that not everyone is like Anne, but come on, does everything with a bit of paint on it have to be pro painted? *end of rant* Vince
pae
I don't know...do you get to claim that you are 'professional' if you get paid to paint? Not in my opinion. I've never put 'pro-painted' on my minis because painting is a hobby, not a profession for me.
ladystorm
just going out on a limb, maybe because they are using ProPaints they are claiming the mini to then be ProPainted. just a thought, not condoning the use of the words, not a regular viewer of ebay, just a random thinker.... cher
Dragon Snack
If you're searching for painted minis, add in a "-pro" to your search. It will remove "pro painted" minis from your search. The phrase is so overused I doubt any credible professional painters use it... You're still going to have a bunch of crud to look through, but it does cut down on it. Cut down the returns in "Miniatures, War Games" from 1616 to 1296. Cut down returns in "Other Miniatures" from 373 to 324.
Mengu
Here is my interpretation on it. Pro painted does not mean it's painted to the person's best ability, nor does it even mean it's painted well. It simply means it is painted by someone who regularly paints miniatures for sale or commission. By definition this person would be a professional miniature painter. Hope this lowers your frustration levels every time you see the term "Pro Painted". One thing you will notice about these painters is that they will eventually improve their skills (if they are smart and willing). For advertising, I firmly believe "Painted by <insert name or alias>" is considerably more effective than "Pro Painted".
zaphod
It is a laughable thing to put in your auction. It means the person is fooling people who do not know what real quality is into thinking they are getting little gems... At least 99% of the time. Unfortunately, I bet a lot of people ARE fooled by it. It has nothing to do with using Reaper Paints at all. It is a marketing gimmick :D

It has pretty much been so since I started browsing eBay.
Jester
Well, I've gone off on this subject before, and hang onto your hats people... "Oh my stars and garters" 95% of the "Pro PTD" or Pro Painted is CRAPOLA. Ever see the line in my auctions? Well, I hold these folks in VERY low esteem to be sure. They are NOT pro, nor do they have HABIT and DISCIPLINE that I would consider professional worthy. You see "Pro" you might as well not look... Seriously, why bother? The line reads: Aren't you tired of seeing "Pro-Painted" and then being very disappointed by the so-called "pro"??? These guys are the tree-trimmer crews in the beat up trucks that cruise your neighborhood knocking on doors looking for work in the summer. They are the snow-plows guys in the winter doing the same. On one hand, I commend them, because they make my work look so much the better in comparison. On the other hand, they flood the market with cheap CRAPOLA and put a bad rep on those of us that enjoy the hobby. Do I consider myself a pro? Not in any sense of the word. If I did, I would have regular contracts with studios, companies, and high-paying collectors. Would I like to be a pro? Sure, why not? Who wouldn't? I do put "Painted by JSS" in my auction headers as often as possible, so people know it's my work and they can rely on it if they like it. But if you want a mini of mine that's above the standard, you're going to have to pay for it, even if I am NOT a "pro".
Cerridwyn1st
I don't search using "pro painted". I search using "reaper painted", and rarely see something labled "pro painted". I guess that the title letter restriction makes it difficult to put "pro painted reaper" in and still have room to title the figurine itself. Just to check this out, I searched "pro painted", "reaper painted" and "reaper painted pro". "Pro Painted" returned 453 hits. That's a lot of stuff to look through, especially if it's mostly crap. "Reaper Painted" returned 149. Only skimmed a few, but didn't see any real dogs in the lot. "Reaper painted pro" only had 11 hits. I've never discribed my work for sale as "pro painted". That kind of "yeah, me" statement leaves me cold. If you really are a pro, it should be evident from your work. If you aren't, you can say it all you like and it won't make it true. Boy, but you guys have some NASTY things to say about the people who do use "pro painted". You never know. They might get better, someday.
