03021: Velociraptors (2)

I needed some Deinonychuses for Pathfinder and lo and behold, Reaper has some! They are labeled Velociraptors, after Jurassic Park, but that's just how it goes. Velociraptor really is a cooler-sounding name. No feathers, but I wasn't ambitious enough this time to add them.

 

 

One of these days I'll get far enough in front of my tabletop gaming to do something with actual blending in it, but today is not that day. These guys took about four hours each, most of which was me trying to undo an early mistake--basecoating in 09669, Reptilian Green! I hadn't used it on anything big before, and didn't realize just how much blue there was in it. It's practically a stealthy turquoise! I couldn't figure out how to blend it back into anything respectable, and it wasn't exactly what I was thinking of, so I greened over it with something more conventional (and less blue). My paint-mixing skills are really not very good, I'm sad to say, and these poor girls paid the price for it with another layer of paint.

 

 

I think my brush control could also use some work, but that's what painting more minis is for, at least!

You can't go wrong with Dinos.

Nobody knows what they looked like anyway.

 

I think these look great and maybe this IS what they looked liked.

 

The striping is well executed.

 

As far as coloration, just look at Dinosaur Dan's crazy sketch book.

 

Edit: How big are these figures compared to the 28mm character figures?

Thanks everyone!

 

They're about waist-height on a Reaper Bones II mini... human/elf of course. Seem to be around 150% as long as a Reaper human is tall in most cases, including the tail.

gorgeous dinos... thanks for the tip on reptilian green... may have to see how that looks blended with surf aqua... could be a whole caribbean mage thing going on!

Absolutely. I haven't figured out a good solution for them yet, other than opening up two or three slots in the ol' foam-filled toolbox per dinosaur.

I'd be worried even a foam case wouldn't be gentle enough. Figs like this are why I'm using neodymium magnets in figure bottoms that I'll be painting beyond a drybrush touch up. 

 

Drill a magnet sized hole in the base bottom, epoxy the magnet in and put them into a square Christmas tin or metal box and bam! Snug, secure and stationary.

No doubt. I haven't gotten into magnetizing anything yet. One of these days, perhaps...

Yeah, they do look really good. I'd love to see a scale shot next to some regular models. Your work here has me very tempted to buy some myself...
