77224 - Rogan Orc Thief and 77231 - Rugg Bugbear

Recommended Posts

Recently got my Bones 2 kickstarter in the mail, pretty impressed with it, overall!

Got to painting straight away, picked out some of the cooler looking minis to start with.

First up we have Rogan the Orc Thief

next I painted Rugg the Bugbear. Almost looks like a leader, so I have painted him slightly different than I intend to paint the rest of the bug bears. Colour scheme I got from another post here.

I'm liking the blood splatter on Rugg.

Rugg: "A goblin exploded on my club over there."

That's the effect I was going for!

I actually just read a guide on how to make blood splatters look a lot better, and I'm looking forward to giving that a try on my next blood stained miniature!

Some pretty good deals in the early bird specials:

I got the early bird 4 bust deal.  FWIW I have some of their earlier figures and they've been very good quality.

This is the mini I painted a few months back.

My first try at painting tattoos too :D
I'm very happy how he turned out, I've used him as a boss in my dnd campaign and people loved him :D

Next to a Mantic Greatax Orc :D

Next to a heavily converted 03197: Thelgar Halfblood :D

Okay, so I may never go back to painting 30 mm...! JK, but I did seriously enjoy painting this bust. It's my first, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

It's Joaquin Palacios' "Drogor" and it was also my first attempt at using the airbrush. I used it to do a shaded basecoat, and then brushed the rest using a combination of Vallejo, Master Series, and Golden acrylic paints. I wanted a strong directional light source, and I think I achieved it fairly well (comments and tips are much appreciated.) Given my 2D painting background, I use glazes pretty heavily, as you can probably tell.

Anyone know of a domestic source for nice wood bases? I've ordered a few from Sockelmacher, but they will take sooo looong to get here. This is just a chunk of balsa I used to paint on and he needs something nicer.

      Happy painting!

Following the conclusion of Storm King's Thunder, our group has started The Curse of Strahd, and I decided to play a thief. Going through my collection of minis, the River Widow mini from ReaperCon called out to me. As usual, after cleaning the few bits of flash and mold lines, I paused... How did I want to base her. I've made extensive use of the Ruined Temple Courtyard stamp from Happy Seppuku... but for this game I decided that I was going to use the Fishscale brick pattern which I'd picked up during their Black Friday sale. I clipped the tab connecting her feet, leaving only 2 spikes from each foot to anchor her into the greenstuff.

Once the greenstuff had cured, I glued her in place, and after waiting for the superglue to dry, I primed her with Reaper's Brown Liner. I then immediately tackled her eyes, trying to mirror what Derek did on his.  Seriously check this out, it's amazing...

So... I didn't quite achieve this, but it's probably the closest I've ever managed. Also I don't have a camera (or the skill) to capture a pic of this quality.

I basecoated her flesh with Ruddy Flesh, and then used Tanned Shadow on top of that. The bodice is based with Rich Indigo with Burgundy Wine over it. Her hair and lips are Auburn Shadow.

So far, so good, but I've got a lot more work to go.
