I'm considering going to ReaperCon this year. I'm fairly new to the world of minis and really interested in sculpting. What classes would you guys suggest taking?

While I haven't try to sculpt minis before, I do have some experience with materials like sculpey and clay. Art degrees will do that to you.

I've played around with a 3D printer, so the Zbrush class sounds interesting.

If you are wanting to sculpt using putties and have little or no direct experience in sculpting minis, then start with the basics - Armatures and Anatomy, Introduction to Sculpting, Hands On Sculpting, etc. These might seem simplistic, but these are the foundations upon which everything else is built and spaces are still available as of this writing. I don't sculpt full figures, but I've been using two-part putties to repair and convert figures for a few years now. I also sculpt flats (...and I'm told I make a mean Aves Apoxie-Sculpt pizza*). I'm taking the Armatures and Anatomy and the Sculpting the Female Form classes.

Cheers,

Glen

3 New Classes with a New Instructor have been Added!

Ian Markon will be teaching the following:

BLENDING WITH LAYERING -

Level: Basic/Intermediate

Type: Hands-On
Time Slot: Thursday 4 - 6 PM

Description: Achieving good blends is the foundation for almost all advanced mini-painting techniques. This class will cover blending using the technique of layering or "feathering." Some time will also be devoted to color choices and highlight placement. Students should bring their own brushes.

NON-METALLIC METAL: EXOTIC COLORS

Level: Intermediate

Type: Hands-On
Time Slot: Friday Noon - 2 PM

Description: This class will cover the principles of using Non-Metallic Metal techniques to achieve bold fantasy and sci-fi effects that are apart from "real" metal colors. Proper highlighting and shading placement will be covered in addition to how to utilize unusual color choices in NMM. Students should bring their own brushes.

EYES WITHOUT A FACE

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Type: Hands-On
Time Slot: Saturday 4 - 6 PM

Description: This class is entirely about how to paint the dreaded eyeball! The mechanics of achieving good eyes will be covered, as well as using placement of the iris/pupil to evoke different expressions, and adding iris color and catchlights to the eyes. Students should bring their own detail brush (not too small!) with a good sharp tip.

Awesome!!

Although, I'm coming close to the 'too many classes/brain fade' syndrome....

yeah. I like the sounds of that Thursday class but have 2 already so not sure if filling up 6 hours the first day is wise.

I might sign up for another class or two on the day of, but I want to make sure walk-ins have a chance if possible, and also don't want to overcommit myself.

It really makes me happy that there are still classes left for people who are late to the show. I'm also super excited about the new instructors that have been added. Winning!
