Yeah I tried it with the cheaper miniatures. Was not impress with them.  The miniatures details were bumpy and it seems the features of them were smaller then most of the 25mm metal models and even the bones.  This new tech. still needs improvement and have the cost low in my opinion.

They kind of say the cheaper one looks like a plastic army man or game piece, with little definition and detail. The example photo looks like a plastic army man as well.

IMO $25 is not too much for a self designed mini, when the price of a "hero" in most games is almost that much.

Maybe not a feasible option to build an army, but its perfect for pretty much every core rpg race and class genre wide. But, even at the ungodly high prices for the 54mm and 120mm figs. You could still probably build an entire army cheaper with HeroForge than with new GW models.

I haven't ordered anything, so I have nothing to offer on the quality of the product... but man, that figure creator is fun to play around with! It's like the best part of "The Sims", but with the promise of a physical item. :)

Yeah, I've been messing with it as well. if it had 'dragonborn' style characters? I'd be all over that and have probably already ordered one. The lack of an ability to do a character with a two handed sword in both hands seems missing though. Maybe I'm just missing that one.

That's an addition they are working on.

I ordered one for a friends birthday. He has a D&D character he's been playing off and on for twenty years. I thought it was pretty nice. He loved it. I'll have to get a picture of it from him.

I will probably order 2 Hero Forge for my brother's birthday in a few weeks. I may order one for me as well. I'll dig this thread out and post them when I get them.

I bought a couple of the higher quality plastic ones.  The novelty of being able to design many aspects of the mini is cool.  The material and detail though are diappointing.  Even after washing, getting primer or paint to stick is rather tricky.

And some parts - the chain weapons in particular - are nightmarishly fragile at the higher resolution.

The material is coarse enough that even at the high resolution I had to use liquid green stuff on the smooth areas to make them actually smooth.

Part of the problem might have been the pose - chain weapons and the arched back flight pose on a female figure. The graininess was noticeable on the bewbs even before priming. (The rest became apparent only after priming.

Cool idea... but maybe a couple of generations of tech too soon - both the printer and the material need work. Disappointed, but not sorry that I gave it a try - it is good to have a company making the attempt.

I backed them on KS, and was excited when the mini came in, and then disappointed when the rapier broke off at the hilt, and my superglue wasn't working to stick it back together.  I hadn't even attempted to paint it, yet.

I saw the update about the new material. They have sooo many new parts and accessories now, too. The price hasn't changed too much, either.

I ordered a mini in the old "Ultra Detail Plastic" last November and have been pretty please with it. The figures can certainly be fragile, but really only if you drop them. And the details are certainly good enough for tabletop quality paint jobs... maybe even more if you're an experienced painter and spend the time to fully prep them. The company seemed to have pretty good customer service, too. They promptly fixed a mistake I made with the order, and shipped the figure much quicker than estimated.

I'd say the new "Gray Plastic" is even better, given it specifically addresses the issues of durability and detail. I'll have to wait to find out, though. Only particularly unique character can really justify the purchase.

That said, I do have a few dozen figures saved on the site. Simply building the character is pretty fun in itself! :)
