Let me know how the new material shapes up (so to speak).

The old material was a bit too coarse, even with the finer grade, and way too fragile. (Not 'don't drop it' fragile, more 'don't put it in your figure case' fragile.)

I could smooth out the coarse areas with liquid green stuff, but the fragility was very much a problem.

But the idea is wonderful, so I would love to see them iron out the bugs.

If it is, I want to get another copy of that Halfling witch you got from them - I love the figure, but it needs so much work.

She is wearing a deer skin and carrying a lantern - it is a wonderful figure, if only she was better made the figure would make a great druid as well as a witch.

I have been using the figure creator to make models for sketching - that part of the process is great! :D

It was the texture that bothered me, more than anything - I had to use a lot of Liquid Green Stuff, and then buff with a cloth.

But that site that allows you to build your character is a lot of fun - .

I really like the idea, but we just aren't there yet.

Grump, the link leads me to the login page. ..

Try it now. ::):

I originally did the figure with Megan's kinky hair, but the deer skin worked better for the concept.

One of the things that I do very much like about HeroForge is that it allows the creation of female dwarfs, with neat,

The stuff takes superglue well. Mine broke by dropping it on a harder carpet, couldn't pin it, just wanted to shatter, but just gluing it has held. It seems to kind of absorb the glue too though, so maybe it might help? How would you go about it without obscuring detail?

If it's soaking in, it seems like there might be voids between grains of polymer used by the printer. The hope would be that the cyanoacrylate would fill some of those voids and bond the grains together better. I have no idea whether it would actually be useful. (And with the prices of the figures, the test would be more expensive than I'd prefer.) I'd probably try a drop of thin superglue in the least sensitive areas first, to see whether it would leave an unpleasant texture behind. Since water catalyzes the superglue setting, this would seem to work best in a really dry environment to delay the setting as much as possible.

Somebody should do this, because Scienceâ„¢!

But I'm too cheap.

One of my regular customers has a thing for Hero Forge, and I've painted over a dozen pieces from that line for him.  The plastic figs are OK, I guess, though the details are nothing to write home about when compared to other mini manufacturers.  The "steel" pieces are worse than TERRIBLE!!!  The material is noticeably grainy (you will see the texture through the primer and paint work) and does not hold details well at all - i.e. facial features are hard to detect.  And this is not a one-off experience either, I've done four or five figs made from this material.  Seeing these figs in a shipping box from my customer always makes me cringe.  The brass pieces are the best of the bunch.  Details are good, about on par with the stuff other mini manufacturers are turning out.

Are these pieces worth the money?  I'd say "no," especially for the amount of cash Hero Forge is asking for those hideous steel pieces, but YMMV.
