Anyone Using Hero Forge?

People who are supporting it now aren't in it for everyday minis though, they are a variety of people either attempting to push the field of 3D printing forward to the point where custom minis are cheap enough that everyone can do them as often as they like, or they are people who really want something specific and lack the sculpting or conversion skills necessary to do so.

I'm really just hoping the field becomes more accessible myself. I think HF is a good step in the right direction (not that I'm eschewing the traditional model).

This is essentially why I backed the project. The price point seemed a little high, but I figured what the heck, let's help somebody get this off the ground. The prices will come down eventually.

Update time.

Received my higher quality "new plastic" miniature. It certainly looks and feels like a more standard HIPS miniature. It almost looks as though it has been primed black (other than the fact that it's very shiny). Surfaces are smooth, and appear to be artifact free. The project I got him for is a few months off yet, but I may do some test applications within the next week or so to compare the materials. So far, it looks very promising.

The sword is a bit bent, which almost lends itself to feeling more like HIPS as well.

Sorry for all the reflection, just taking these with my phone at my desk at work. Had to show off right away.

That looks much nicer than what I've seen from them before. Please let us know what you see as you work with the figure; I have several players who are interested in their stuff and I'd like to be able to tell them that purchase has become viable for a gaming figure.

Yes, all printed together, so the base is part of the mini. I'll end up detaching for my project. I think the material should be able to handle a sharp knife normally.
Material feels very similar to HIPS, but not quite. A little bendy/rubbery but not anything like bones or Mantic's DS pieces. I couldn't bend the base easily but the tactile feel on the surface isn't exactly HIPS, but that could just be the striations in the material.
Hopefully you will be able to see them in pictures I upload in a little bit here. They are very fine, but still present. Hopefully a layer of primer and maybe a layer of sealer smooths everything out. Or maybe the striations don't show at all. Still unknown.

Pictures edited in:

Notice the lines on the cape, in particular - almost looks like a topographical map.

Notice the side of the base, the foot, the pauldron.

Notice the flat part of the sword near the hilt, and the inside of the scales near his hip.

I don't want to take away from what an improvement this material appears to be over the older high-quality stuff, but it does appear to still need extra tlc. I should be able to start a WIP soon, and I'll drop a link in here.

I like playing around on Heroforge's 3D tool but I've never ordered a mini proper.

The new gray plastic looks hella good though. But my biggest fear has always been that I just have no way of knowing how tall the mini'll turn out just by messing with the "height" option. :/

I'm slightly OCD about scale.

That's a good point. Something worth putting on their FB page. IT would be nice to have ruler form behind the miniature as you are scaling it.
