Raging Heroes: Dark Elves and Sisters

Recommended Posts

I don't hate them, I just don't want any more from them.

From a kickstarter, they have been fair, if not better than most at meeting their customers orders.  They had three major issues during production that could have sunk a lesser company.

I think the biggest single thing bothering people is that the first kickstarter was so nice, people like myself, were expecting the same thing.

All said, most of the art and concept is gorgeous and they sacrificed no details for the sake of easy molds (I'm getting they get maybe 100 casts out of a spin mold before something years, if the get that much)  But here again, I will admit to being a tad overwhelmed and intimidated.  There are a number of baggies in have where I look at the bits and say "that's a what?"  When construction is that complicated, a location for assembly instructions is valuable.

For me at least I wanted a sisters of battle surrogate and some bling for my dark eldar that I could tabletop paint and assemble quickly.  I got exceptionally detailed models I really can't paint after assembly and take serious time and patience to assemble.

So I don't hold a grudge but anything further I buy from them will be after retail when I can see what I'm getting into.

The concepts and sculpts are great. The casting material, process and mold-making are terrible. If we've come to the point where that is considered good, then I picked the right time to get out of collecting minis in general. Luckily, there are many places still making high quality stuff, which is why things like the delays for HF don't bother me, I know I always get good stuff from them. Night and day from RH. I basically don't buy minis right now, except a few KD (because you have to if you want them, the ebay market is nuts) and HF.

Quality, quality, quality. It's all that matters. You put a vent on a face, you have no business making minis.

It's not just the quality of the minis (including resin quality) ... how they do their updates / their communications with backers in general does not sit well with me. "Hate" is too strong a word, though I'm not satisfied - neither concerning quality nor with communications.

Agree with pretty much everything Kangaroorex and CashWiley said. I was perfectly satisfied with everything I got from TGG1 but bitterly disappointed with TGG2. The artwork and renders were gorgeous, but trying to prepare and complete the very bad resin casts I received requires an enormous amount of work. And items that I do manage to finish are so fragile as to be unusable in games.

I would not back another of RH's kickstarters. Looking at their online store there are almost constant discounts, so if any worthwhile figures are produced in the future I could probably still buy them at reasonable prices.

For what it's worth, in hindsight I'm not a huge fan of the first KS's stuff because my attempts to assemble some ended up with lots of brittle broken bits. And my experience with trollcast donated by the dude who did the orcs was the same.

Sorry for the double post, but no one posted between.

Received my final package today.  The metal minis are everything I would expect from what I saw in TGG 1.  the detail is stunning and the casts are crisp with almost no flash or mold lines.  These are excellent.  The last few pieces i recieved with them are also of a different black resin that takes paint and primer without beading or the primer not sticking.  if the entire run had been like the last, I could be persuaded to get some more.

Unfortunately, they said they will never make metals again and the majority of their resin is so difficult for me to use i will probably never paint them.

Oh well.  Live and learn.  My KS for this company is now complete!

Having just frustrated myself a bit with the atrociously tooled bad resin stuff, I can safely say RagingHeroes has knocked that company from Nottingham off my personal Overpriced Crap Never To Buy Again throne.

I also feel a certain urge to peddle bridges in Brooklyn to folks actually buying this at retail...

Yikes, they still use kind of a scary amount of lubricant on the resins. I put 2 davidians and an icarite in my ultrasonic cleaner to get them prepared to assemble.

The liquid in the cleaner had the same viscosity as soda when it was done.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the davidians and icarites, they build pretty well, and don't seem too overly fragile.

the regular sisters fit together more poorly than expected and seem to suffer greatly from mold shift on their draperies.

The elves are bad. All the weapons are significantly thinner than the vents they're attached to and are very likely to break as you are assembling.

Hi just read about your experience with a ultrasonic cleaner :) I have a lot of Raging Heroes minis, love them but some of them have this awful mold release problem. I anm considering buying a ultrasonic cleaner, any advice? Is there any chance that the cleaner will damage the figures, as they are delicate. What was your experience? Any advice for choosing a cleaner?

Thanks again, and sorry for reanimating a long post from the dead , its just that i want to know more about it

Hasn't this completed delivery some time in spring/summer? The thread might be due for a locking.

didn't help. mold release agent still screwed up my attempts to prime any that had too much mold release. nothing short of sanding down the offending area to remove the stuff had any noticeable effect on improving primer adhesion in my experience. I have long since written off large portions of my pledge as complete junk.

Have you tried  AK186 Paint Stripper?
It work on resin and plastic, if can remove the paint maybe can remove the release agent!

Mold release agents are chemically very different from paints.

Frankly, if you don't value the minis overmuch, go try out Engine Degreaser...

As for Ultrasonics. Stay away from 'jewelry cleaners' and go for the 'industrial looking' models sold for auto repair businesses.

A 1L stainless steel model with a mesh basket should do nicely.

(I used mine to clean the clips locking the injectors to the HP rail on my car engine. Stripped the paint straight off them. )

Any brand that you can think of? I still intend to use them with Raging Heroes, i had some batches that are full of the mold release stuff, put with patience and multiple repetitions, it goes off but it takes time, maybe the ultrasonic cleaner can be handy

But in your experience, even if it didnt solve the problem, was it easier to clean with a ultrasonic cleaner? I never had one so for me its new.

      Andowyn Thrushmoor!
It's been awhile since I've painted a plain ol' character miniature. I spent the better part of today working on her and I’m overall pleased with how she came out. I really want to double my skill level by the time Bones V is delivered and I’m proud of my progress! Slowly but surely figuring out how to do faces, this one looks pretty okay, though her right eye is funky.

Since this is my first form post, the picture is her next to my first miniature! It's about four years old and I keep it around the rest of my collection in a place of honor

If anybody here loves cavern terrain and missed DF's first cavern KS KS2, this spring/summer around June DF will have KS6. The theme of KS6 will be Return to the Caverns and should be great fun for those who took part in KS2 or those who are new to DF.

DF had this to say and showed the below teaser pics

We're doing for Caverns what Dungeon of Doom did for Dungeons. A whole new batch of fun pieces to enhance your existing collection, but also completely stand-alone.

      Some of the key features:
New Core Shapes (diagonal wall, convex curves, 1" pieces, etc)
      Passages
Elevation (with stuff that's impossible on graph paper...)
Negative Space pieces (and new Terrain Trays)
      Flashy Pieces (Magnets & LEDs)
      Large pieces (4x4 and larger)

This looks like a very interesting board game with lots of new, fresh ideas and cool artwork (and nice minis - there is even a pledge level for just the minis: around 15 of them for $20 plus shipping):

If you missed the first Gloomhaven Kickstarter (and retail sold out quickly) here is your chance. I backed that game the first time around and could not be happier with the results. Warning ... that box is heavy ...
