77279: Narthrax ( Copper )

Recommended Posts

So I'm not starting this one just yet, but I figured I could get some feed back before I do start it...

I was toying with several ideas, and am wondering what people think of this as the color scheme. It's my dragon Palorforthen, very coppery with black and gold and hints of purple

update with the start of the mini

I tend to think of "metallic dragons" in the D&D mindset. And Narthrax is NOT a good dragon.

If you're just talking about a color scheme, tho, I totally approve.

I'm just talking color scheme, not alignment =)

I plan on doing purple, myself, but not with red and orange. I plan on downplaying it with grays and blue-grays.

I dig the copper more, though.

Love the copper but if anyone could pull of the purple, it would be you. That is what I love about your painting, you are not afraid to use the bright colors and you paint them beautifully.

I know right?? Siris earlier dragons and their color palettes are amazing. I'm happy to just be able to paint a natural yellow color and Siri blows us away with greens and blues and awesomeness!

I'm happy to see copper or purple frankly. :P

Heehee thanks. Definitely think I'll go copper for him

Which will be interesting. The paint used on that statue is acrylic, not my nice reaper paints. I'll haveto see if I can duplicate the color, otherwise Narthrax will be painted in a mix of acrylic and mini paints

Most mini paints are acrylic.

Well I meant the thick, hobby lobby paint when i mean acrylic

The new Kickstarter got me motivated to dig up some old bones. I realized after all these years I have never painted a dragon, so I got after it. Rather happy with how this came out.

A large mini ragepainted sloppyfast in under an hour just to blow off some steam and get it off the tray it has been standing around for ages on.
Well, large mini I say. Compared to most other dragons of the Bones kickstarters, this one is rather smallish.
However, back in the day when heavy metal was king, this mini would be considered a large miniature of a dragon.

Painted this for the Lost Mines of Phandelver module that I am running.  Venomfang will be reoccuring throughout their adventures.
I painted this faster than usual, but would not call it speed pained because it still took me about a month. I put a bit more into it than my usual speed paints, but a little less than others. It is always hard from me to take pics of larger models, probably should have taken this one outside, may have benefited from the background trees and grass more than most other models.

Did a little painting today to calm my nerves before the con.  Experimented with several brands of metallic paint.  Photos are not great, but you get the idea.

Yay, finished in time to enter 2013 Dragon challenge with 6 hours to spare....

He is 2 lbs 2.5 ounces of lead, so pretty straining on the wrists. The WIP is here : https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/52564-teronus-grenadier-dragon-wip/
I will likely put him on a display base later.
