Quick question if we have an early flight on Sunday, can we pick up our entries on Saturday after the ceremony?

And thank you for all the tips.

Yes you can. We encourage everyone to leave their entries in the competition hall as long as possible but you can collect them anytime after the awards ceremony is finished (and the crew has been given enough time to get back to the room!)

I am a vocal proponent of bringing more then one piece as you never really know what they judges will like. Cash won gold on something he brought in as an after thought and I don't even think he was planning on entering it originally.

Absolutely, just don't bring "20"! Three to five entries of your best work in a category will give the judges a good selection to work from.

Yeah, I entered Damien into the Open catergory because it was the only thing I'd ever converted!

The model picked to judge in Painters was one I wouldn't have entered and ended up with a silver.

Though I did enter too many. It was my first time and I blame Proctor :) Now I have a much better idea of what to enter, mostly from talking to the various judges and especially Heisler. My advice if you're unsure which mini to enter is to present both to a painter/judge and ask which you should enter and why. Competition criteria can differ from your own personal preferences, and a lot of your score is based on who you get for judges. Kris said he thought my silver medalist was a bronze piece but I drew judges who liked that style of painting, and I agree...but I did keep the medal anyway!

o_o too many. I'm pretty sure I have too many for the painters category already........with how much I'm about to put into my dragon/tamer base that may qualify for open or diorama? No conversions happened to either miniature, but there's only two and a lot of work may go into this base.

So the question would be. How much impact is the base going to have on the final result? Does it enhance the figure, does the base itself create and/or further a story, THAT THE VIEWER CAN UNDERSTAND?

Based on what you said and without seeing it I would leans towards Open, the story would have to be visually very strong for me to recommend diorama/vignette.

I had a number of people complain to me last year about the Sophie Trophy bronze selection for the diorama/vignette.  The gist of these conversations was A) their diorama should have won (but it was Non-Reaper so didn't qualify for a Sophie) or B) that if they had entered their diorama was better and would have won. I only had two responses, your didn't qualify or you didn't enter, I can't broadcast a message to get your entries in to contestants like Aquaman. In other words I can't judge something that you don't enter, so either actually enter or pay better attention to the entry cutoff!

I clicked "like this" just because of the goblin math inclusion.

And I'm quite curious about this "Heisler Affect" (Effect?). Sounds like there's an interesting (humorously disastrous?) story behind this.

Thank you Heisler for posting this information! As my firs ReaperCon (well, first con ever!) I'm still new to all of this so knowing how much of what to bring is very helpful! I think I know what I'm bringing.... Think... LOL!

I think Affect is the right word for this. Basically if there is a mini not fastened properly to its base during the judging I will be the one that finds it. I will point out though that I have never dropped a mini.

Useful information.  In your previous thread on supporter's you mention bringing mini's from various companies.  I think bringing one (maybe two) from each of them would not fall into the too many would it?  I definitely do not plan on bringing every many I've painted in the last 6 months. Though I only plan on entering into the painters competition.
