Derek the Dim (Red Box Games)

Recommended Posts

Next up another half-orc, and purposefully so this time. Derek the Dim, from Tre Manor's Red Box Games. He was an accidental acquisition, sent by mistake. Tre was kind enough to let me keep him. He wasn't on my radar at all during the Kickstarter, but I fell in love a little, honestly, when I saw him in person.

More of my home-brewed orc-ish skin tone on this, though I left him unwashed (heh). Only real thing with which I managed to tickle myself on this one was the rope (him and on Dirk, soon to be posted, both). Don't think it shows in the crappy pictures well, but it actually turned out great on these guys.

Thanks for looking. Feel free to comment and critique and what's it alls it.

UBERCOOL mini...he reminds me of a more muscular Marty Feldman, AND NICELY painted. The pale skin color looks WONDERFUL....it suits the mini. GREAT WORK!

Thanks, y'all. I wouldn't go as far as "superb" or anything, haha, but I was happy with him. A lot of that's just that it's just plain a great sculpt*.

I actually had a lot of trouble getting some of the paints to stick with this guy. I don't know if my black Krylon primer is betraying me or what. Yellows, like his hood, didn't seem to like this guy, especially. May need more white. In spots. Eh.

*But while we're here, my only real complaint about any of my RBG sculpts, I think: I'd like a little more horizontal definition or something on the leather/padded/what'sit guys' armors.

      Been on a painting spree these last few months, in fact Cassie is mini 52 painted so far this year, out of my original goal of painting 50 all year.

      First up is Elliwyn Heatherlark, Gnome Bard (SKU 77164) which is the bones version.  The details were a bit soft, but she is totally serviceable for table-top.

      Next up, Blink Berenwicket (SKU 3689), the super spunky female gnome warrior in metal.  The sword didn't really turn out, and I should have had a side view...  Metals are shaded metallics.

      And last but not least, Cassie, Female Gnome Wizard (SKU 77031) in bones and mini number 52 of the year.

      Promised thing, thing due. Here are pictures of my Gnoll hunting party. All of them are Reaper Miniatures Gnolls, painted with Reaper Master Series Paints. I added the archer's bowstring and converted two models (see last picture).
      I will now work on a display base for them. I've found an inspiring picture of a dusky sunset in the desert for the background.

      Hi everyone, here are pictures of my latest Gnoll, a converted Toghra the Gnoll Leader. The upper part is from 77235, Toghra the Gnoll Leader sculpted by Jason Wiebe. The lower part of the mini is 77236, Bloodmane Gnoll Warrior sculpted by Tre Manor. The spear head is the blade of 02757, Gastaroth the Vampire sculpted by Werner Klocke and the staff is from 14056 Weapon Pack 1 sculpted by Tim Kaufman. Here's the link to the conversion WIP if you'd like more information.

      Ten of the 23 minis I’ve painted since my post in March.

      Monsters = tabletop
      Humanoids = above tabletop

      Sinisthreax (14634) is an ultra-complicated sculpt. He’s a noctiny (5e kobold press) recurring villain in my dnd game. You’ll note one eye is normal along with that side of his face.

      Silas (03010) the human cleric I wanted to dingy up with blood spatter. I imagine his name is Bret and he does not appreciate being called a heal-bot.

      The Dragonborn (Wizkids), half-orc (red box games) and deep gnome (Bones) are all new players in my dnd game which has grown from 3 players to 7 in rapid order.

      Narbaz is a tiefling from Red Box Games and I like the OSL I got from below, but not from the staff. I really just got sick of it and called it done.
