Just spent the last hour and a half painting.

I decided to work on the fur, and get that going...

"Word to the Wise"... Do not forget to do the prep work before starting on stuff.

I started with the highlight color (thinking the undercoat was dark enough..(WRONG).

So all that painting, required me to paint it over with the undercoat again.

Thats called learning, and gee, I just got experience..ROFL

i've come to the conclusion that fur is a pain in the Nether Regions.

Been doing my corrections, and enhancements, and working on bringing the fur along.

Think I've gotten closer to what I am wanting.  Still needs some more color; but its getting there.

I think a good solid Reddish Brown will make me happy.

So here are a few photos of where The Craven Stand now.

Started base coating the leather.

I'm using Cavalry Brown here, it will be glazed over with Brown Wash/Brown Liner.

I will probably use two different tanned leather mixes.

At this stage of the game I REALLY take my time, and try to reduce mistakes,

over paints, and things that require me to go back and cleanup the mini.

I see a couple small spots that I will clean up when I start to refine the paint job.

I like the feel of the miniature at this stage.

Here are the Craven with a Cavalry leather base coat.

Has been a busy morning; but I managed to get some time in on those leathers.

Brought everything back into control.

Put lonestar leather on leggings, and armbands, toned down the Cavalry leather.

The camera is making it look darker than it actually is.

Think It has no highlighting to bounce off at this stage.

Its slowly getting there, and I am totally enjoying these three.

Challenging, but Oh So much fun.

Here is where the Craven are at this stage.

Looking forward to following this WIP. Are you using a normal camera? I think that your minis would look better with a steadier photo, maybe a tripod? :)

I am using my cellphone with a tripod.

I try to take better photos for the show off thread.

I am still base coating at this stage, no highlighting going on, and I'm still color experimenting.

I'm really not that concerned about having great photos (which is one of my shortcomings).

Thanks for your interest in what I am doing, these Red Box Game miniatures are incredible !

So much detail it makes  my head swim, and they are 25mm.

Horrible Discovery.

I opened up my Masterson's wet palette this morning, and much to my surprise, there was

mold growing on the left hand lower corner of the paper.  Seems the sponge underneath was rotting.

(ICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).  Ordered more sponges to replace the one that I had in there.

Didn't know that they can go bad.

I'll just use my small well palette for paints until the sponges get here.

At least I am doing Base work at the moment, I'll hold off the fine stuff for a bit !

You can wash the sponges in the laundry with towels. Just no fabric softener and don't put in dryer, let air dry.

thanks for sharing your work so far. General question. Do a lot of people use the diluted wash to bring out the details? Looks handy on these more intricate figures.

Well 2020 is over and even though the year wasn't so great I did get my dragon goal of 12 dragons completed (actually completed 15 !) So with the new year I'm looking to try it again.

The last year I did a bunch of dragons from all eras a d makes.  This year I think I will make the challenge a little more specific.  This year I'll try for 12 dragons from defunct companies: grenadier, Ral Partha, Thunderbolt Mountain, heritage, and others that are no longer producing today.  Whether i include minis from companies that died recently, im not sure (and I  know Ral Partha lives on as Iron Wind and Grenadier lives on as Merltion?  But I'm including them because its my challenge and the ones I have are the originals.

That said the first piece I did was the Bridge of Sorrows.  It came out really well so I let my better half look through my old boxed sets and she chose the next one:  Clutch of Fear!

This is another mini that I have had sitting in its box waiting for decades to be completed and its time has come (besides if I really mess up they have started recasting the molds again so its not an utter disaster. Also, since i have this one in the original box, I thought i would do a WIP to show how it goes.

Here is what it look like when I opened the box...

All the parts are there, including the instructions (more on those in the future) and an "inspected by 3" as well as assembly instructions.

Hope you all enjoy the ride.  I'll try to be diligent with updates.

My Secret Sophie arrived at its destination i can share with everyone.  My recipient wanted something cute.  I thought it would be cute to have a man feeding his pet.  Just because his pet happens to be a rust weevil should not be held against him.

I saw the barbarian and it looked like he was throwing the swords rather than. Actually using them to hit anything.  I also had a spare rust weevil and the whole thing just came together.

Roger got the old swords out of the box from his adventuring days.  It had been a while since he'd been out to the dungeons but at the rate George was going through weapons, he was either going to need to buy a new crate or go delving.  Maybe this time he'd just buy a box of old weapons, let the younger kids go fight the baddies.  These two look okay.  He grabs the weapons and heads out to the field.  When he reached the edge of the field he looks out over the fine red and tan soil and dust.  HEY GEORGE!  He yells out over the field.  In moments George shows up jumping and chittering.  "Hey George" he says again, "its dinnertime!  FETCH!"

I had a lot of fun this this one, On top of making him fly, I really wanted to make it look like he was from a black and white movie. Doing that but keeping everything  distinct with such a limited color palette was challenging. I really enjoyed this project.

      I hope you like it.

Warren of Vile Fungi is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm EST on Friday, November 1. It will include over 2 dozen individual fungoid-based miniatures developed and sculpted by Pedro Navarro. He's been working on this project for over 2 years in collaboration with Mortal Arrow. It's a deep dive into heroic, fantastic, and terrifying fungal beings from the 1970's to the present. Ascomoids, Gas Spores, Basidironds, Ustilagors, corrupted Myconids, and heroic Myconids are just some of the many hand-sculpted miniatures from Pedro.

The project itself will be live for only 2 weeks, so please consider supporting this effort by Mortal Arrow and Pedro Navarro. Every little bit of aid is important to us, so we kindly ask that you follow this project at the link below:

You can see more details about the miniatures on the Mortal Arrow Facebook and Pedro's blog here:
      http://mr-bugman.blogspot.com/

We will be posting details and updates on this thread as well.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help and enthusiasm!!! We are very excited to bring scary, and heroic, fungi to peoples around the globe!!
