Warlord Games Actually Played!

Recommended Posts

Greetings and salutations fellow Warlord-ians!

It has been quite some time since I have been active on the forums. Contrary to what people might wish for, I am still alive and well.  ::D:

Just this past week, Warwick and I managed to throw down in not one but TWO Warlord games. It was the first time in (unfortunately) a long time that we played Warlord. I know we both had a lot of fun playing. Here is a recap from my side of things. I will let him chime in for his take.

Game #1

I was fielding Dwarves of Taltos against Warwick's Dwarves of Kragmarr. A little friendly cousin rivalry never hurts! I decided that I wanted to field a very non-traditional list just to see how it would do. I had the following:

Troop 1:

Tohil Steadyhand

Kara Foehunter

6 Piercers

Troop 2:

Snorri Oathbreaker

Troop 3:

Fulumbar Ironhammer

Klaus Copperthumb

10 Piercers

Troop 4:

Gargram Heavyhand

5 Piercers

1 Swiftaxe

1,000 points total and 28 models. I don't remember much of how Warwick had his army designed so he will definitely have to say what it is. Here is what I remember of how the game went: Warwick rolled like crap and I rolled like complete and utter crap. LOL!!!    At the end of the game, I was completely wiped out and he had 10 models remaining on the table. However, 8 of the 10 models were wounded (most of which on their last damage track). A few rolls go my way and I still lose but instead Warwick may only have 3-4 models left. All in all, a very fun game to get back onto the Warlord horse once again.

Game 2 saw a familiar foe: Necropolis, specifically a subset based around the Vampires. Wow, brutal. Absolutely brutal. This game was very ugly. But, first, my army list:

Troop 1:

Fulumbar Ironhammer

Klaus Copperthumb

3 Berserkers

4 Mancatchers

Standard Bearer

Troop 2:

Snorri Oathbreaker

Troop 3:

Tohil Steadyhand

Margara Firetongue

3 Warriors

3 Halberdiers

Standard Bearer

Troop 4:

Earth Elemental

Troop 5:

Hagard the Maimed

1 Piercer

2 Kneebreakers

2 Forgemaidens

Standard Bearer

Troop 6:

Earth Elemental

1,000 points and 26 models. Warwick only had 1 troop in his army. I got every synergy that is built into my army to do what I had intended it to do. It worked beautifully. I was rolling a good solid average on the dice so no complaints there. Warwick was rolling average at most on all of his dice rolls with one exception: Tough checks. That was very bad for the Dwarves. He only failed one Tough check the entire game. One. And he managed to convert one of my Mancatchers to a zombie (the Standard Bearer one no less. LOL!). We had agreed before starting to play that we were only going to play 6 turns. We called it during the 4th turn when it obvious I had zero chance to win.

We have another round planned with a scenario in mind this time. I will let Warwick explain.

I really don't recall my Kragmarr list.  It was pretty tough, though. I was impressed.  It all worked nicely together, but I won't play it again.  Just one of those one time lists.

Now the Vampire lists was really simple.  Bloodspire, 3 Bloodseekers, 9 Crimson Knights, and a Chattel (snack food).  And it rocked.  One troop, so on my turn everything with fangs goes nuts and kills half the board.  Vamps are total brutes.  I used the Bloodseekers wrong, not that it mattered.  I failed a single tough roll all game.  Out of five or six.  I have a rep as the King of Tough, but this was over the top.  Nothing would die!  Plus I was snacking on dwarf jerky and healing faster than he could lay down wounds.

Next game is a scenario about wrecking pillars.  Each side has two pillars.  Defend your own and destroy the other guy's.  First player to either bring down both enemy pillars OR scrub the land free of enemy models wins the game.  I was working on my Snakeman army, but I don't think they can win this one.  If I can glue bases back on my Mercs, they can finally have some fun.  Choices, I have lots.

Ah yes...the joys of being on the receiving end of the Vampire SA. Watching your brave soldiers smack around a Crimson Knight on Defensive Strikes only to find them converted to tasty snacks is definitely not a highlight reel for the Dwarves. LOL!

I have a Dwarf list that I have used to some success in the past that I might dust off for the pillar scenario. But I have also considered going a completely different direction just to try and throw off Warwick. Will it work? Time will tell.

Thanks for the war report. I really need to find some opponents in my area because I have a small fully painted kargir force waiting to try, as well as enough models to try a few Reven and Mercenary force possibilities. Unfortunately only interset I know of in the area is my wife but she hasn't assembled her any of her forces yet.

Kargir are definitely tough to face. I played with them once against Warwick. I kinda sorta sprang them on him. Tee hee hee...

I ultimately lost the game, but it was really close. (Pssst...here's a hint...Kargir has lots of Cleave running around. :poke:)
