April Resolution Painting Challenge Springs forth

Recommended Posts

Please see page 1 here for rules and guidelines/questions. This is also the chatter thread here:  The first post as linked will contain the updated totals soon and the plan is to start getting the graphics sent to all who have completed the months so far.

a reminder when submitting to please adhere to the forum show off guidelines. This is a much bigger challenge than I expected and it makes life easier for the mods

Also, please only create a single index post for your links. This means to modify your existing post when you get a new figure finished instead of posting a new one.

This month's challenge is: 5.

Yes I'm aware with reapercon there's less time to paint, but that's part of the challenge! Spring-like is encouraged but by no means part of the challenge.  On a side note, if you decide to paint up the TMNT and April, that would be epic, but I'm not sure there's ninja turtles minis out there...
We have 1 bonus challenge for this month.

In honor of a rather obscure holiday...Barber Shop Quartet day, You have the optional challenge of painting a figure to resemble such! Bowtie, Pinstripe vest, the hat, optional cane...let's see what you can do.

The deadline Is planned for May 5th Midnight, RST. (Reaper Standard Time)...because I'll be in Texas and won't be closing the thread yet.

4 for the exchanges, something new to try
12 for the monsters, who in the dungeons moan
7 for the competition, to please the judges eye
19 for the table top, which will set the tone
9 for the players, doomed to see their characters die
One for the master painter on his ergonomic throne
In the well lit studio where no shadows lie
one tag to hue them all, one tag to bind them
one tag to bring them all and in the forum find them.
In the well lit studio where no shadows lie

Theme Idea for others with higher skill levels:

A Barber pole is a white pole with Spiraling ribbons.....like a Spring....

I am surprised the theme is not painting a fool, a jester, a guy wearing a Fool'scap.

Since I failed to paint anything in March, I am either out or I need to do 9 for this month to catch up. Been reading the chatter thread to look for a ruling on whether that is legit. Anybody got opinions or remember what was decided?

Bam!!  Done! (Checks calendar) Early even!

I was actually done on the 14th, as this is my Spring Exchange.  Just had to wait for it to get to its new home before posting the showoff.

1&2: 59038: Deadlands Noir: Houngan and 59037: Deadlands Noir: Femme Fatale

3-6: Pulp Figures  PGJ 20 Jinx Johnson's Harlem Jazz Quartet

They can all be seen here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61240-spring-2015-exchange-rhapsody-in-blue/?p=1119575

While they aren't quite Barbershop, they are pretty close  ::D:

So for April:

  1.  My Spring Miniature Exchange
  2.  A Big Stomping Robot for Mars Attacks
  3.  A sci-fi figure to enter at ReaperCon
  4.  Another SHIELD agent/MIB two really
  5.  The last two heroes from Mars Attacks

May 4th is Star Wars Day. So I challenge painters to bust out their very best Jedi painting skills for that.

So after too many years of painting with my bottles just in boxes or standing around on my shelf of shame or in various drawers, I have finally at much cost of labor made paint organizers!  BEHOLD!  I made these to hold up to 204 Reaper dropper sized bottles (Army Painter and Vallejo fit too).  They aren't the only ones I use by any means, but they're the bulk of my paint collection.
Wasn't the hardest thing in the world, but honestly I might try another method if I do this again.  Right now the units are loose, probably going to lean them on the wall--eventually I would put supports on the backs so they can stand up at an angle (think picture frames).  The insane super duper bonus feature is that I can put the two together and transport, or more importantly, SHAKE all my paints at once!  The main purpose was organization though and being able to see each of my paints and, when I've organized and sorted them, see the spectrum at a glance rather than digging through a drawer as I have been doing.  For the chromophiles out there I'll post pics when they're sorted and in their proper places.
To make them, I sized the bottles and figured out the hole size and spacing (bottles are about 1" diameter, I used a 1 1/8" hole saw (paddle bit blew out the back side) and drilled 102 holes (sandwiched the 3/4" boards together).  It took hours as my drills' batteries kept dying and the saw lost its good edge by the 60th holes or so.  I used the "holes" I drilled out as supports (had to chisel the middle supports in half) between the silver parts and the 5mm (yes, civilized world, in the US we know how to use proper/metric, and certain sizes of wood are specified in metric!) plywood base (black, not really visible).  I carefully glued and screwed these together.  Decided to use up some spray paint I had lying around.  Enjoy and be inspired!

The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost.  Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table.  They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done.  Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight.  Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover.  Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too...

Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them.  That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...

Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual.
All the information you need should be here.

As a change of pace from the Hard Mode Challenge, this round will have a Skill Challenge.

      May and June 2019 Challenge

      Your challenge is: 9!

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
"Mayday!" is an international distress signal used in verbal communication in ships and aircraft.  Your first bonus challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to paint a miniature in some distress.  This could be a diorama, an adventurer falling into a trap, villian whose weapon just broke, or anything else your mind can conjure.

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
The Solstices: June marks the beginning of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.  Paint a miniature or a pair of miniatures showcasing this duality.

      Skill Challenge: OSL
Try your hand at painting a miniature using OSL or Object-Source Lighting.  If you feel like this is something that is already in your wheelhouse, work on your technical skills in another area.  Practice NMM, TMM, wet-blending, sculpting, or anything else you've been meaning to try.

As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!

Being that this is the figure that was the biggest reason why I picked up the Hassassin Bahram Sectorial Starter Pack (say that three times fast ), I was suspecting he'd wind up on my painting desk sooner or later...  I just didn't realize he'd have the honour of being the first finished this year, as well as my first finished Infinity miniature!

At some point in the near future I'll acquire some S2 holoprojector tokens for him, as actual 3D representations are nice.  Not sure where from, but I like my current Art of War Studios things, so probably theirs.
Oh, and for those who might be curious, that's a Global Evil Corp UniPod with two StairPods (well, one pack) in the first three pics, fourth one is a DuoPod with a StairPod alongside it.  Sadly no magnets yet for the terrain, but they're on the way, and will get here at some point

Hi all, does anyone know where I could find a painting guide (PDF, video, anything really) to help me out with the Brother Lazarus Plague Doctor mini from the Dungeon Dwellers? Thanks in advance!
