DKS WIPs are like masterclasses.

If any of you folks get a chance to watch him paint at Reapercon, watch how he picks up paint from the palette. It might be only because it's so different from how I paint, but it really blew my mind the way he mixes so accurately on the fly.

Interesting choice to prime the head and weapon white and the rest black.  Is that due to color choice (in terms of mirroring the dark leather) or for another reason?

I have seen Derek essentially do a monochrome using black and white primer when starting a mini (I have a picture of it somewhere). Essentially an advanced form of zenithal priming.

2 hours on the head. Wow. How long does it take for you to complete a mini that size?

The head looks lovely.

I'm guessing based on Derek's typical work 8 - 10 hours.

I think he actually did a WIP thread on a mermaid or something like that before. It was inspiring.

Great, now I need someone with a decent phone PLEASE film Derek painting? Pleaaaaaase?

If any of the fine folks from Dark Sword Miniatures read this, might I suggest the next DVD set: Masterworks Miniature Painting with Derek Schubert?

Its always a strange mixture of awe and amazement or wanting to commit brush seppuku. But I was inspired to try painting a bit more detail into a face yesterday and though probably not close to two Schubert's, its a start. I shall continue watching this for the awesomeness and inspiration this gives off.

Even though you clearly said so in your first post, I didn't initially realize that you also originally sculpted this piece! I is even more amaze.  I am pouring over your WIP threads for painting now to see what tips I can pick up.  Seriously, do you have any WIP of your sculpting processes too?

Wow, how did I miss this one.

Gonna be picking this one up at RCon this year. I've always loved the art she is based off.

Awesome work so far. I love seein the addition you do to the figures after they've become a metal product. (see the Pathfinder Gunslinger for an awesome example)

Two Schuberts would be twice as good as a standard Schubert.  At that point, I think you begin painting the actual spark of life into the miniatures and they become self-aware and able to move around and live in your house.  ::P:
