Zombicide: Black Plague

I haven't played the original Zombicide, but this looks like a lot of fun. Some of those extra figures are really talking to me.

I count 12 player dashboards. That seems like over kill. How many people can reasonably play the originals at once?

Did GW drop their licence for Thrud minis? I remember him costing a fortune(*) in metal back in the 80's.

(*) in relation to my 80's paycheck.

Crap i was pretty " meh" on this one....but adding another Thrudd to the collection will cause me to throw more money down the KS rabbit hole.

Hopefully the mechanics are close to season 1 of Zombicide for the those of us that only game sporadically.

From what I can tell the mechanics are pretty close, but a bit better. They changed the always hitting players first with ranged weapons thing that most everyone hated.

I might make this one the KS I back, given how wildly successful Zombicide is at home.

This look like fun on a bun... but all my summer kickstarter moneys are belong to Reaper.

The fantasy setting is right up my alley. I'll probably have to make another will save before the end. Does anybody know if the gameplay is easy enough for a 13 year old to learn? If so it might be a family game option for the kids.

For our household, Zombicide is the game even the girlfriends / wifes who hate "freaky" stuff play, and enjoy. They actually WANT to play it, and it's been a gateway to have them join more of our tabletop games. They are pushing me to paint "their" characters first (they more or less settled into playing the same characters and we allow them because, well, they are playing with US!), so I think the game is a great success in being simple, collaborative, immersive and fun. And angsty at times too, which is very cool.

We also play with my daughter (just 11, she played since she was 10), she is an expert on this game. With us is always (and gets sad when we play without him) my 8yo nephew, who grasps the rules just fine and relays on us for complex options, but is learning to develop strategies and synergies with the adults as well. Right now, my 5yo niece is watching us play too, rolling dice and playing along her mum, interested by the "ugly zombies".

So yeah, it is a very good family game IMHO.

This helps a LOT. Thanks for the excellent info Willen.

My Bones III budget has to take a hit for zombie fantasy fun time!

That is a shame. that rule was a core part of the challenge.

Really?  Wow...that was the one rule I thought was just stupid.  I understood why (my guess is ranged is a bit overpowered), but I hated it.  I understand there should be a chance to hit your fellow survivor but a 100% chance was just dumb.  Glad to see that changed.

Does anyone know if kickstarter currently works with Canadian Visa debit? I am really bummed that they dropped Amazon payments, now I gotta worry that they won't accept my card. Unfortunately lots of retailers don't and it's a huge bummer.

The new rule has any dice that fail hitting the survivor which makes a lot more sense. As for the new method removing a core part of the challenge I'd guess/hope that they rebalanced the range weapons to account for it.

Same here. I really dislike having my CC data handled by more companies than the absolute minimum required.

It works as a game rule, I like it in some ways, buuut but the problem with that is with some players, no matter how much you numerically prove risking hitting them was worthwhile, they will still be complaining all god blasted night over the one tiny bullet that killed them. Old rule was a safeguard against that.

Since this being a fantasy setting, it stands to reason that the non magical ranged weaponry isn't as potent as sniper rifles and AA-12s.

100% chance wasn't realistic, but it enforced teamwork. Just because someone was potent in melee or shooting, the rule still required forethought and planning with allies of the opposite forte, especially combined with the way 1st player rotated. And when the zombies got to you, players had to "GET IN THERE!" to get an ally out of harms way, That one selfish jackass couldn't just stay back and shoot so their character stayed safe.

@CorallineAlgae: glad to help, and while it is my experience, I really hope that if you end up buying it, your family will enjoy it.

I just returned from the office, visited my brother and his daughter (the youngest one mentioned above) was with a friend. She run at me telling the friend "This is my uncle and he has zombies!" She also asked if she could paint some of them next time I sit down and paint.

It is safe to say Zombicide has done nice things for us as a family, it is a game we found common ground. Kids love rolling dice and making fun noises when killing zombies, and adults love the tactical depth it can provide when you are in a tight spot and need to carefully plot the next move.

@scorpio616: I am with you here, I always thought it made no sense but it imposed some very strict teamwork guidelines, and getting bogged down was dramatic, without being able to disengage and friends having to decide... go in and risk not killing them all, get damage; or just stay away and wait until they chomp on your fellow survivor?

Seems like they are offering less game for the same value than the other zombicides. The expansion even only has 2 extra tiles. I haven't seen anything that really grabs me yet either.

That's probably the cost of the new plastic dash boards combined with the lack of paid exclusives. Though while you're right that the amount of stuff in the retail box has slipped from season 3, especially in regards to the expansion, its pretty much even with the season 1 box.
