2015 Reapercon In Review

Recommended Posts

You can blame the mister for your illness. XD

Surprisingly mine is a different strain than his. He's lost his voice, sore throat, coughing, runny nose, weakness while mine is body aches, light sensitivity, sneezing, congestion, fever, sweats and weakness.

Basically my throat is fine. No kissing for him!

Sympathy like, that sounds fairly miserable.

I hope you both recover quickly.

Wow, sympathy for all the forumites who are sick or where sick. I do not even know how I made my constitution roll, usually I am the first sick.

I avoided the ConCrud, but came home to one of the worst allergy seasons of recent years.

They are calling it "The Pollen Tsunami" out here.

As soon as I heard about the crud, I went into wash, rinse, and repeat mode.  It seems to have worked.

I used to get furious when folks came to work as sick as the proverbial dogs and hacked and wheezed all over everything and everybody...because they didn't want to take sick time.  But, I don't think that any ReaperCon attendees had that attitude.

I used to be get mad at people that did that (still do from time to time), but working for my warehouse company and keeping note of people and talking to everyone, I have discovered that if they don't come to work, they lose 80-100 dollars per day they are not working. And with companies such as this one not providing benefits or paid sick days, they end up not being able to pay rent. Living paycheck to paycheck sucks.

On the other hand, if they come to work, I wish they would wear the little mouth masks so when they cough, it's spewed in there and they can go and switch out the mask when needed. That would be great. Or, I should start wearing the mouth masks to avoid the air. Does this even work?

I guess it would. It's supposed to keep the stuff in if you're wearing it, wouldn't it also keep stuff out?

Of course, you could just purify everything with fire.

Absolutely agree about the face masks ... even if our workplaces wind up looking like Asia.

One of my favorite bosses would send people home if they were sick.  Immediately.  The sick folks hated  him; the well folks loved him -- until they got sick.

...

Yes, it would.  But I am a bit hesitant to have people think I am playing doctor.

Am I the only one that didn't get sick?

Nope, no crud here.  I DID shake a lot of hands and hugged a TON of folks too.  Plus I even stopped taking my allergy meds as TX is no where near NC standards when it comes to that.

Perhaps it was the large quanities of Fireball combined with the near total lack of sleep that saved be from the crud...ie an environment so hostile that even the bugs avoided it...

Ok.... Now I'm curious... Was this most an upper respiratory infection? A gastrointestinal infection? Or for some a little of both?

And anyone who has the diagnosis of strep, were they strep positive? Or was anyone positive for flu (either A or B)? And if so... How many people had flu shots?

And no one hospitalized with pneumonia? Hasn't sounded like it, so legionaries is out.

But a norovirus for GI illness is this contagious. Flu can be, so could a cold, but I wouldn't expect strep to pass this easily.

You'll have to let the sickos verify this one, but from what I saw, it seemed like cold/flu/allergies to me.

It was a particularly bad year for the pestilence and plague. Many of the artists and staff have failed their constitution saves and are downed with the concrud.

This hasn't happened for a few years.

I got my constitution save. Felt pretty good the Monday afterward. Not sure how this happened. Sorry so many got sick.

::(:

Mines upper respiratory but more of flu symptoms. I have nausea as well but that's due from poor diet and being sick for so long.

It has all the earmarks at least in me of a nasty adeno or corona, maybe just a common rhino.  The throat was more sore than I'm used to, but the GI component I'd expect from either of those.  As sick as I got, I never had a fever.  I also got my flu shot, but I know it was a miss this year.  Lungs feel a bit wimpy, but nothing odd in the sputum that I can see.  On the bright side, all the extra bacon is melting away quickly, so at least I did not gain weight this con!

So neat byproduct of entering your minis into the ReaperCon Master Series Paint Contest is that they take really nice photos of your minis.

Did these a few years ago but I've never entered before and they were one of the few painted pieces I inadvertently brought to the con. Several of the other forumites strong armed me into entering and I'm glad they did.

These guys did suffer from the "Hey this is Gloss sealer, not Matte!" but other than that I'm still pretty proud of them.

Figured after ShadowRaven's adventures last year it would be a good idea to post. If you were traveling or know of forumites who made it home in one piece feel free to post.

I got home without incident 45 minutes ago.

So I have a bit of a problem, and I'm hoping my friends at the con can help me take care of the problem. I love to buy the Chessex pound-o-dice. I love them so much I have several pounds of dice that never get used. Way back some forumites mentioned that they did not realize dice collecting is a thing so I thought I could share the wealth.

      If your collection is lacking,
If you are new to all this,
If you just want to say "I got a die from Ludo" (Sorry no ribbon for that this year.)

Come find me at the con. I'm pretty easy to find, 6'2" with a black bowler hat. If I'm not in class or playing CAV I'm at the table with Loim and all his basing moss.

So... I've finally gotten started on the ReaperCon theme entry for 2015. This is where we are and well... It's a mess. LOL! I've got quite a bit of work to do, not including painting. This project is largely experimental and we'll have to see where it goes.... Hmmm....
