So who is excited about ReaperCon 2016?

Recommended Posts

Wife is taking a second look at the classes today, trying to decide if she wants to follow me into madness. She doesn't want me to teach her because "I do it better" than her, but would maybe take instruction from others. She is really interested in little object rather than figures, so I might gently guide her into weathering and things that would translate well into her other craft/business/hobbies.

I'd really like her to go, but I don't want to push her into something she will be miserable doing. But there is that slight window appearing. I think what helped her a little is that there is a store from Japan a mere 10 minute drive from the hotel, Daison, which is basically a dollar store (at least in Japan). She would be able to buy a lot of things that she normally wouldn't because of luggage restrictions.

At this point, I'm really thinking of a general push over the fence.

There may be an unfortunate trade off where I have to participate more in his hobby - Spartan Races. He apparently thinks old and out of shape will not result in untimely death whereas I feel that merely watching it on TV is entirely too exhausting.

What I'm looking forward to is just getting out of town for a few days. Back into what I use to do all the time when I was in high school & that is be around gamers, minis, games. etc etc. RCon is the only time of year I get to sit down behind a screen & play games with fellow gamers. Of course seeing old friends I only get to see once a year face to face is awesome as well.

Had to look that up. Short video clip subjects? Carrying buckets of cement, crawling under barbed wire, and running across something that was on fire. Uh......

...maybe a volunteer position along the sidelines or in the cheering section?

But you are in a better spot than I, for she doesn't have a hobby that I could trade time for. My best bet is to try to find some beagle convention to take her to in return. She's a bit crazy about the little furry guys.

THAT's what Reapercon needs: a big inflatable kiddie pool full of puppies. Ten bucks for a five minute immersion. Can't miss!

I would suggest a petting zoo as well, but I note there's already plenty of hairy creatures going to be showing up...

Beagle is hosting a convention?

Sadly no. Tis the canines with floppy ears that gathers my love's attention. She wants at least 12, but must make do with the one.

Until we win the lottery. Then it'll become hard to restrain her.

There are much more tame mud races that y'all could probably start with. I'd love to run it one day.

Yes to puppies!

Dear love is interested in tabletop/fast painting classes. I'm so excited! ::D: Besides, if we're going to different classes, we get to say hi to twice as many of you!

I am sending him to Hawaii next week for a whole weekend of races so that should count for something  ^_^  Sadly, I also have the dog hobby and occasionally make him do that too! That is the one that also keeps from spectating at his races - it is expensive to find someone to watch four big dogs.

At this point, I'm really thinking of a general push over the fence.

Well, she decided not to come as it would involve having the kids take off two days of school (one if we skipped Sunday) and she thinks she would get bored. Little sad, but she probably would be bored. Maybe next time.

It does free me up to no worry about making sure she was entertained, so there's always an upside.

My brother-in-law's wife's family breeds them.  They are cute.  Too bad they would kill my oldest daughter.

Barely awake.

Why would beagles kill a little one?! What kind of dogs are his family breeding that would take the loving hound and...

Oh, never mind.

Allergies.

In accordance with the title of May's hobby goal section, and getting a bit bored with using the same colors over and over, I decided to open up the Box of Waiting and found these....

(back left corner) 2 Wizkids Blink Hounds
(back to us as NSFW) Vampire with Victim
(big guy in the back) Dungeon Saga Zombie Ogre Wizard
(in front of Zombie Ogre) Dungeon Saga Necromancer
(right of Zombie Ogre) 2 Wizkids Ghouls
(right of Ghouls) Female Wraith from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Necromancer) Undead Wolf from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Wolf) Female Mad Scientist
      (next to Mad Scientist) Stone
(next to Stone) Reaper WW2 Zombie German
(last on right) Orc from Learn to Paint kit
(front rank) various Mousings from the Tavern Set and Thankgiving and Christmas Mouslings.
There's more, but this is everything that has had more than priming applied.

First up was the Female Mad Scientist, who was one of the first minis I bought when I got back into the hobby. I started on her not long before I left Austin, and while I was happy with how most of her came out, I got a bit lost in what to do with her base. Her weapon and smiting glove were also unfinished. There's a touch up on her face from where she got chipped in transit, but the patch doesn't seem to show in pictures. (yay!)

I got her weapons finished, a bit of purple on her hat ribbon, and the beginings of her base.

The wraith, wolf, and ghouls received a coat of black wash over the parts that were already gray, and the wraith and wolf got further applications of Storm Gray. The skin on the ghouls was a base of Vampire Skin washed with Rainy Gray. Now that I have the rest of the triad, I can start getting them highlighted.

Like last year, this thread is to find roommates and transit. Being the con isn't at the hotel rides may be more important.

My situation: Room full at 4 Wednesday through Monday.
Rides unknown as flights not booked, but looking at noonish arrival Wednesday, into dfw, out if dfw Sunday around 7, maybe Monday if I can get the time off then. Either way I'll need help with transit if possible.

      On your marks...get set...

With the announcement of the HGI block being filled up for RCon this year, thought I'd I ask where everyone will be staying for the con this year. Helps with getting together afterwards or even during the Con.

I'll be staying at Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) this year.

The ReaperCon painting competition is open to miniatures and models from all companies, In light of that fact we have started to invite other miniature manufacturers to provide prizes for the best painted version of their products at the show. Welcome to the House Procrastius Common Room.

      House Procrastius
      "Ego probabiliter ad cras"

Yeah, I know the other Houses got their rooms up before us.  Sorry, it took me awhile to get to it.  But you know, it still got done.  Got a little busy with stuff.  Anyway, have at it.  When you get a chance.  If you can't, it'll keep.

As a wise old teacher once said to me:

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.â€
      - Mark Twain

Now, I think the teacher was trying to get me to turn my work in on time, but honestly, I loved Mark Twain, and it sort of had the opposite effect.
