So who is excited about ReaperCon 2016?

Recommended Posts

If I remember correctly, all entries, except for those with a day pass for Saturday only, need to be turned in by Friday evening. The majority of the judging is done Friday night. Saturday folks need to be turned in by noonish? I believe all that information is available in the rules posted on the Reapercon website.

Yeah I saw the deadline of Friday at 5PM unless you are coming in on Saturday with a day pass and then it is Noon.  What I need to know is if they will be there between 9-10AM since she has a class from 10-Noon.  We would need to be out of the house by 8:45 just to get there by 9:30 and have time to submit her entry and get to her class.  The judging is pretty easy for Youth Division I think.  "Here is your certificate. Awesome job!" :)

Helpful tip for everyone planning on entering stuff into the painting contest:

Please come up with the titles of your pieces ahead of time.  Please do not wait until the second you get to the entry table to think of them.  This makes entering pieces much quicker if you have them thought out ahead of time.  It is important to be kind to the people in line behind you and turning in 15 entries will take a long enough time.

ETA: Planning out what categories they will go into also helps keep things speedy.

Yes, Yes, titles please!!!

Any idea when they start accepting entries each day?  I am going to have my daughter bring hers on Saturday when she takes her class.  Wondering how early they open the doors because if they stop at Noon Sat for One Day passers then I would hope they open it up at 9AM before the 10AM classes.

I'm no sure what time we will open the competition room to entries. I'll see if i can get a hold of Mengu and Debbie and see if arrangements have been made yet.

Should my daughter have some title for her piece? I am sure she can come up with something...interesting. :)

Thanks! If they won't have the doors open and let people submit before 10AM on Saturday can you find out if there is anyway to go past 12 for those with One Day passes and a 10AM class?

Yes, it must have a title.

I'll push for an opening before 10AM, There are no exceptions to the 12 Noon rule, unless there is an actual change in the schedule. I know its harsh but we get grief about it every year and we have to cut it off sometime and have time to judge, score, tabulate and get ready for the announcements on Saturday night.

I can't wait to paint with everyone!!! If I get the right classes, my whole Saturday will be free ::D:

I also keep adding more and more tiny details to my entry in my brain.... I haven't even started yet.

I'm so far out of my depth but I'm just so excited.

Edit: Nooooo wait. The sculpting faces class is on Sat and I want that one toooooo.

Maybe we should do a ReaperCon Hangouts Party...

I know I'm planning on one! ^_^

Maybe I'll even tackle the last Goblin Challenge while Reapercon is running to keep my mind off of it some.  :)

Beagle is hosting a convention?

Sadly no. Tis the canines with floppy ears that gathers my love's attention. She wants at least 12, but must make do with the one.

Until we win the lottery. Then it'll become hard to restrain her.

101 Beagles???

i wont' be bringing my painting box since i'll be flying in...so no painting for me this year. No classes either >.<

No need to bring a painting box, bring some brushes and a couple of figures as paint is provided.

Or just bring the brushes. Pretty sure you can get figures there.

(you missed a prime enabling chance there Ub3r)

we'll see =P i am going to miss all the conversion classes so no minis from that. I guess it'll be whatever i pick up from around the con, since spending cash is also going to be quite reduced this time around

Oh I bet there are piles of minis I could bring and have you paint if you need something to do.  Could even leave my carry case with you and let you use any colors in it (not all of them can fit but I can always bring certain colors you may like to use that I own).

We can get you busy with painting if that is what you are wanting to do.  I feel like I still owe you a bit for that awesome custom pic you drew for me and the daughter at the end of last year.

Usually we have classes to fill up time but I don't have any so I am just not sure how I will pass the hours =P last year I had classes and painting box that kept me occupied

Socialize! Talk to forum members, artists, and sculptors. Paint things! I'll bring a few figures for you, so bring a brush and use free paint provided. Play games. There is soooo much to do there other than take classes silly Tiamacrab ::P:

In accordance with the title of May's hobby goal section, and getting a bit bored with using the same colors over and over, I decided to open up the Box of Waiting and found these....

(back left corner) 2 Wizkids Blink Hounds
(back to us as NSFW) Vampire with Victim
(big guy in the back) Dungeon Saga Zombie Ogre Wizard
(in front of Zombie Ogre) Dungeon Saga Necromancer
(right of Zombie Ogre) 2 Wizkids Ghouls
(right of Ghouls) Female Wraith from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Necromancer) Undead Wolf from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Wolf) Female Mad Scientist
      (next to Mad Scientist) Stone
(next to Stone) Reaper WW2 Zombie German
(last on right) Orc from Learn to Paint kit
(front rank) various Mousings from the Tavern Set and Thankgiving and Christmas Mouslings.
There's more, but this is everything that has had more than priming applied.

First up was the Female Mad Scientist, who was one of the first minis I bought when I got back into the hobby. I started on her not long before I left Austin, and while I was happy with how most of her came out, I got a bit lost in what to do with her base. Her weapon and smiting glove were also unfinished. There's a touch up on her face from where she got chipped in transit, but the patch doesn't seem to show in pictures. (yay!)

I got her weapons finished, a bit of purple on her hat ribbon, and the beginings of her base.

The wraith, wolf, and ghouls received a coat of black wash over the parts that were already gray, and the wraith and wolf got further applications of Storm Gray. The skin on the ghouls was a base of Vampire Skin washed with Rainy Gray. Now that I have the rest of the triad, I can start getting them highlighted.

Like last year, this thread is to find roommates and transit. Being the con isn't at the hotel rides may be more important.

My situation: Room full at 4 Wednesday through Monday.
Rides unknown as flights not booked, but looking at noonish arrival Wednesday, into dfw, out if dfw Sunday around 7, maybe Monday if I can get the time off then. Either way I'll need help with transit if possible.

      On your marks...get set...

With the announcement of the HGI block being filled up for RCon this year, thought I'd I ask where everyone will be staying for the con this year. Helps with getting together afterwards or even during the Con.

I'll be staying at Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) this year.

The ReaperCon painting competition is open to miniatures and models from all companies, In light of that fact we have started to invite other miniature manufacturers to provide prizes for the best painted version of their products at the show. Welcome to the House Procrastius Common Room.

      House Procrastius
      "Ego probabiliter ad cras"

Yeah, I know the other Houses got their rooms up before us.  Sorry, it took me awhile to get to it.  But you know, it still got done.  Got a little busy with stuff.  Anyway, have at it.  When you get a chance.  If you can't, it'll keep.

As a wise old teacher once said to me:

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.â€
      - Mark Twain

Now, I think the teacher was trying to get me to turn my work in on time, but honestly, I loved Mark Twain, and it sort of had the opposite effect.
