So who is excited about ReaperCon 2016?

Recommended Posts

I have at least one costume decided upon for reapercon!

Might as well ask a year in advance:

When they talk about "themed" costume, how close to the theme must it be? Next year fall right smack during Halloween season, but the ideas I'm having aren't spooky themed.

It's a general horror theme...so if it isn't then it won't count. It's really only reaperbucks any way. Wear whatever "fits the rules of conduct" costume you want.

I will be:a political nazgul (possibly the witch king) Sauron/Saruman'16! Why choose the lesser evil?

That's hilarious!!!! Will you pass out campaign buttons and tell people "Vote for me!"?

I slept on the couch one time. Then I felt bad about it.

This is a new problem for us, new pillows made a big difference, FYI.

Can't wait to see everyone again at RCON!!

Y'all are already booking rooms?

Hey, after 11 years, she's pretty used to my snoring and we've tried all sorts of pillows, nothing helps me.

Some of them are booking the rooms already, they are excited!

Bathory beat me to it, but clearly your wife isn't using the pillows correctly.

Debating booking a room now. The whole no deposit thing might just push me over the edge.

Those of you also looking to be spooky for ReaperCon - the Spirit store chain (at least in the US) has everything half off (I hope that's not considered advertising or anything like that). There is a particular plain black robe that looks like a decent base for prospecting Sophies! ::D: It might be a bit more work to alter a few places, but it's pretty lightweight, which is good for Texas in October. I'm hoping there's some in stock today!

Not that I'm either confirming nor denying being present, but I do believe I've settled on my costume idea.

I won't go into details now, but the original idea wasn't spooky. But then I realized I could zombify it with some basic makeup and *boom!* spooky. And once zombified, one of the props is going to make a lot more sense with a little modification.

The real problem will be to explain it to air security when they check my bags.

How do y'all plan so far in advance?

My job very flexible, with respect to time off, and ReaperCon is a priority item for my calendar. I am blocking off time for it as soon s I can.

Added to that is the fact that hotels have pretty generous cancellation policies, so I can get out of it if a real disaster comes up and prevents me from going.

I probably won't book my plane tickets or any car rentals until summer time.

This is something some of us really should be doing as a group. If most of us are all going to shuttle between the hotel and the convention (and maybe Reaper HQ) during the same dates, renting several 7 passenger minivans instead of dozens of conventional cars could be a smart idea.

A logistics nightmare for some, but a logical choice for others. Best done with groups who know each other well.

You will need to start another thread for that. It will get lost in this one.

I believe Reaper said something earlier about shuttle between the hotel and the convention centre (don't kill me if I'm wrong).  If this isn't the case, organizing group transit is not a bad idea.  We could also look into a cab rate from the hotel.  Many have minivans and it may be even more economical than renting.

Just brainstorming.

In accordance with the title of May's hobby goal section, and getting a bit bored with using the same colors over and over, I decided to open up the Box of Waiting and found these....

(back left corner) 2 Wizkids Blink Hounds
(back to us as NSFW) Vampire with Victim
(big guy in the back) Dungeon Saga Zombie Ogre Wizard
(in front of Zombie Ogre) Dungeon Saga Necromancer
(right of Zombie Ogre) 2 Wizkids Ghouls
(right of Ghouls) Female Wraith from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Necromancer) Undead Wolf from Graveyard Expansion
(next to Wolf) Female Mad Scientist
      (next to Mad Scientist) Stone
(next to Stone) Reaper WW2 Zombie German
(last on right) Orc from Learn to Paint kit
(front rank) various Mousings from the Tavern Set and Thankgiving and Christmas Mouslings.
There's more, but this is everything that has had more than priming applied.

First up was the Female Mad Scientist, who was one of the first minis I bought when I got back into the hobby. I started on her not long before I left Austin, and while I was happy with how most of her came out, I got a bit lost in what to do with her base. Her weapon and smiting glove were also unfinished. There's a touch up on her face from where she got chipped in transit, but the patch doesn't seem to show in pictures. (yay!)

I got her weapons finished, a bit of purple on her hat ribbon, and the beginings of her base.

The wraith, wolf, and ghouls received a coat of black wash over the parts that were already gray, and the wraith and wolf got further applications of Storm Gray. The skin on the ghouls was a base of Vampire Skin washed with Rainy Gray. Now that I have the rest of the triad, I can start getting them highlighted.

Like last year, this thread is to find roommates and transit. Being the con isn't at the hotel rides may be more important.

My situation: Room full at 4 Wednesday through Monday.
Rides unknown as flights not booked, but looking at noonish arrival Wednesday, into dfw, out if dfw Sunday around 7, maybe Monday if I can get the time off then. Either way I'll need help with transit if possible.

      On your marks...get set...

With the announcement of the HGI block being filled up for RCon this year, thought I'd I ask where everyone will be staying for the con this year. Helps with getting together afterwards or even during the Con.

I'll be staying at Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) this year.

The ReaperCon painting competition is open to miniatures and models from all companies, In light of that fact we have started to invite other miniature manufacturers to provide prizes for the best painted version of their products at the show. Welcome to the House Procrastius Common Room.

      House Procrastius
      "Ego probabiliter ad cras"

Yeah, I know the other Houses got their rooms up before us.  Sorry, it took me awhile to get to it.  But you know, it still got done.  Got a little busy with stuff.  Anyway, have at it.  When you get a chance.  If you can't, it'll keep.

As a wise old teacher once said to me:

“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.â€
      - Mark Twain

Now, I think the teacher was trying to get me to turn my work in on time, but honestly, I loved Mark Twain, and it sort of had the opposite effect.
