Reaper Miniatures Bones 3, Launches July 7th

Recommended Posts

Just remember those who cannot be online when the KS starts, I got into Bones 2 about a week in, and I worked my way down from Wave 7 to Early Bird by keeping an eye on the pledge levels. Don't be too disheartened.

Hmmm...a month away is it?  That should give me enough time to print...I mean earn some extra money.

Note to the NSA or whoever else is monitoring this: I'm kidding.

Counterfeiting is the responsibility of the Secret Service (really). Who, for some reason don't seem to like being called by their initials.

Now that we know a date, I honestly can say I don't think I can wait that long. That clock is just going to taunt me. But at least it gives me time to try and paint as much bones as possible in anticipation of hundreds more coming. (As everyone has pretty much said)

The building I work in has a Secret Service office.  One of the women that works there has a tiny SS emblem on her gym bag, in what I hope is actually a very amusing joke.

So, I never 'technically' backed either of the other ones (I got in on the pledge manager when it was all done, when I found out about it) does reaper do like, "give us this many moneys and get everything' or do you have to go back in and up your pledge every time something new gets unlocked?

I ask because I'm getting Tianot, no matter what, but I imagine he'll be some sort of stretch goal, or the "kaladrax at the end of this book"...

No "all the minis" package price. You'll be upping your pledge often while the KS is live.

Unless you wait till near the end to see the final stretch goal. Even then you'd still have to add up all the things, or you could just up your pledge later when the pledge manager goes live.

One of everything for Bones I was $347*.

One of everything for Bones II was $619.

So you could just pledge $500 on Day 1 and come back on Day 30 and see how it's going.

*Does not include hats, t-shirts, Sophie Collectors Sets, or Green models from non-Vampire Pledge Levels.

If you come back at 30 days you may be looking at locking in your pledge through the Pledge Manager.  Reaper did state 21 days as the run time for this Kiskstarter.  (I double checked my information from my previous post) (unless Reaper changes their minds of course)

Well, they do come from the Treasury department.

More importantly, how long will the KS be live?

Bryan said 21 days while at the con because a month was too much stress for too long of a period, and I think they think it'll keep things moving more steadily without that annoying lag in the middle.

As for how long Bones 3 will be live; as I recall from the ReaperCon Banquet the duration was less than a month.  I want to say they announced 21 days, but don't hold me to that.

I don't remember if it was a stated at the banquet or just Bryan talking to us amongst the masses.

If it is 21 days as we recall, it will conclude on July 28th.

I'm just going to put in a pledge and put the amount at $500 and increase it later if needed.

I don't know whether you remember Steve Jackson Games v. US Secret Service, but that would argue that the joke might be more of a "joke".

I don't know if it was said to the masses or not.  But I do know he did say this in the small group conversation we were having with him about KS in the large room when he talked about all things KS.  All exactly for the same reasons you mentioned (keeping the KS madness down, avoiding the middle lull).

Ok so just before Gencon. That might work out a bit better but it means I won't be contributing much during the campaign. I don't want to dig into my con fund for this. Looks like I'll just be adding on through the pledge manager.

I can confirm this as I was also in the round table on KS. Tianot will be revealed eventually.

And judging by the shipping performance of KSII, the difference is a matter of days, at most a couple of weeks.

I'm sure many of you can sympathise- we see a cool model in a kickstarter, finally get it delivered and then sit flummoxed whilst trying to figure out exactly how to paint said mini. This Mystic Portal has been sitting on my painting desk since last June and I finally figured out what to do with it.

Imagine that your players have just finished ransacking your meticulously planned dungeon/keep/cavern system. They've breezed through the encounters, possibly due to good dice rolls or possibly that they're a bunch of min/maxing little murder hobos. What you need is one final encounter, one last chance for them to shine or to let them spectacularly fail.

There's one last room left and it's securely locked. It'll certainly be magically warded and if I know my players then that's a challenge that they won't be able to pass up. Inside the room is a single portal, made of nondescript stone but with stunning looking gems set into the eyes of it's carved dragons. Surely none of them would be daft enough to trigger an obviously dangerous portal?

      You haven't met my players

My plan to paint one side of the portal the naturalistic stone colour and to paint the other side the fully active, just about to summon a multi headed dragon, portal. This means that when they invariably trigger it, all I have to do is spin it around and savour their worried/confused faces Here's hoping that I can actually do it justice.

This is the portal. It's cast in translucent bonesium, which I like because it gives you a choice between taking advantage to it's see through quality or to just paint it like a normal mini. I opted to paint it as normal.

There was a slight bit of warping on the base piece, but the old 'boiling/ice water' trick sorted it out in 5 minutes. I'm planning on setting the base on some warning runes, so I used the Greenstuff World Dwarven rolling pin on some foam to see how it would fit onto the pattern.

On to the painting! I painted the inactive side of the portal Cloudy Grey 9089 and the active side Pure Black 9037.

I'm not sure if I'm going to fuzz up this line or leave it as a stark contrast.

I added a black/ green wash to dirty up the stone and added a little bit of orange to the stone to give it a little bit of texture

The real work begins! I started blocking in the colours for the active side of the portal. Red, purplish black, white, green and blue. It's almost as if I'm trying to match my half finished Ma'al Drakar

My coordination went a bit wobbly with the foo dogs(which are awesome, btw!) so that's where I left it for tonight. We've got a storm coming in tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get some more work done on it tomorrow. Any comments/criticism/suggestions are, as always, warmly received.

Speed paint job that I did as part of my 4th of July Paint Binge this year.  I was vaguely going for crazy Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner, with the white hair.

This was a fun sculpt - orange octopus definitely inspired by others :)

Got this guy in my Bones Paint & Take Home Survival Kit earlier this year.  He was done with lots of sloppy washes and dry brushing. I put flock on its exposed twigs, for decency's sake.

Durgam Deepmug, one of several figures I picked at random to paint for table use during the early weeks of covid-19 lockdown.  I tried a little magical/ ice effect on his sword.
