So I've got a few bottles of Stephan's Pokorny paint from the first two Dwarven Forge KS. I was looking at my DDS2 and wondered if I could use it straight on the Bones. It's basically the right color scheme and thinned already. But I wanted to test it out on something else first, hence the shipping container. I might as well paint it up while I'm at it.

Well it seems that at least on the shipping container the Pokorny paints don't take so well. Some rubbing and it just started coming off, a little harder and I could get the paint between the ribs.

I'll clean it up with some simple green and then try the grey liner as a base and see what happens.

Sometimes those things still have mold release on them, and the stuff WILL repel paint.

Scrub your Bones clean in warm soapy water and a toothbrush before painting.

Did that before the first test. Cleaned off the bad adhering paint with simple green and washed again with warm soapy water.

With the liner, the paint holds up to light handling. Anything rougher or prolonged starts to rub off.

In every picture I've seen of the end of the shipping container that has the molded-in doors, the door mechanisms ("handles") are upside down. Meaning, they are near the top, instead of near the bottom as on a real-world shipping container. Does anybody know if this is just an assembly error and the walls can be flipped over relative to the top and bottom, or if it's a straight-up design error in the model that can't easily be fixed to look right?

Is have to take a look at it again when I get home Monday.

Brother Jim,

Sorry for the delay. I needed a few days break from my vacation.

In deed the handles are located near the top. There is also an extraneous horizontal bar. The walls are not "flipable". However with some careful cutting the bottom can be cut away, this allowing the removable top and now removed bottom to be switched.

Well I spend so much time on it I figured I better at least show this off. I typically only post WIPs in my blog, if you are morbidly interested in the progress the links are listed below.

A few weeks ago I started working on some more orcs...I haven't done much since then. I'll post anything related to finishing those off, as well as the new orcs and half orcs I got since.
Today I started work on the shipping container - 80036.
I decided to be difficult, so I'm painting it orange... using craft paints.
First the base coat - a buttermilk (hoping there was yellow in there) a little red, some yellow, an orange tint and a bunch of medium. After 2 coats, it's a bit thin... but looking pretty orange.

I also found some more craft paints so I will be using those for the next steps, and that features a pre-mixed orange.
Once I've got the color solidly down, I'll probably do some distressing with my greasy metal color.

Maybe only another base coat though today, gotta go to a friend's dad's memorial service in the evening.
