Bones II Frogmen (Squog Warriors: 77268 )

These are frogman warriors from the new Bones II Kickstarter figures, sculpted by Jason Wiebe.

 

Like the accompanying frog shaman, these critters are full of character and interesting detail.

 

I painted them up like common meadow leopard frogs, the sort of spotted green ones I played with as a child, because they seemed a bit big and burly to be tropical tree frogs.

 

The one with the spear and human-face-shield is 92681; the one with the fork and turtleshell shield is 92682.

Just as a side note:  Does anyone know how to make it so the pictures in the post are nice and small but we can click on them and see a larger one?

Why didn't you use a wash or a glaze?  A wash on the body and then a clear glaze on the eye would make all the fine detail you put into this tiny guy pop so much.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. It sounds intriguing. Do you mean some sort of color wash over the frog's bodies?

 

As for a glaze on the eyes, do you mean a layer of gloss protection without matting it down?

Well, I did something new.  I took done minis and mucked with 'em.

 

I decided to play with gloss and matte finishes.  So I put a thin layer of gloss on the frogs, then painted matte over their weapons and loincloths and cockleshell armor, then put extra gloss on where needed, especially their eyes.

 

Ironically I found it difficult to photograph to show the glossiness.
