John Wick (Max Decker 50051 Heavily modified) Picture Heavy

Recommended Posts

Thanks!

I am very happy with how he turned out, though I don't think he looks much like Keanu Reeves...

I was very focused and had a clear picture of how I wanted it to look, so it only took 3 hours to paint up.

Nice paint job, and I think you captured the look of Reeves quite well.

If you want some feedback from a complete newb on conversions & sculpting, but who also happens to be an ex-dancer so I understand posture and lines pretty well:

There's something about the posture that doesn't sit quite right - and I think it's not the posture at all but the angle of the pistol in hand.  It doesn't match the line of the arm.  I dunno that it's worth doing anything about, but I'd probably line the gun up with the line of the arm, and maybe look at the posture after that - there's something that reads subtly 'off' about the way he's aligned.  It might be the orientation of the back hand - if someone holds their arm back from their body in that way it's uncomfortable and unnatural seeming.  I think it'd read better for me if the fist was aligned so that the palm faced the body.  I'm also unsure about the head - something reads wrong to me and I think it's largely due to the direction of travel.  In general, your shoulders align parallel with the direction of travel, and your head drags them around.  The read I'm getting from his body / shoulders is that he's turning to the left, while the head seems to be indicating a turn to the right.

Thanks all!

That info on sculpting is very helpful, Laoke!

Just keep in mind that what you've done is approximately 102353.2% better than anything I could achieve, and that I could oh so easily be wrong : )

SPEC-TACULAR conversion!  This makes me feel like I might actually pull of Sam and Dean Winchester someday...

To quote many of Keanu's lines....

"Whoa!"

Great vision and execution.

As for what Laoke said, I can see the interpretation of something being a little off. But I'll respectfully offer a different view: I think the gun and left fist both make sense in their current position from an anatomical sense. What is a little weird is the lean of the model. It may be a little exaggerated, but overall I think the whole model gives us a hint of some dynamic action we just can't decipher since he's not on a diorama. It looks like John was either rolling back his shoulder out of the way, or starting to lunge to one side or something.

That's my two cents when trying to put together the hands, weapon, shoulders and body, and head/gaze.

Hello everyone, I hope you're having a great Black Friday. Here are pictures of 50287, Cain the Cyber-Troll sculpted by Bobby Jackson.
This Chronoscope model was designed by Wayne Reynolds, Winner of the Reaper Con 2011 DYOM (Design Your Own Miniature) Auction. It is also available in Bones Black version under SKU: 49028.
I added the katana on its back to be faithful to the concept art illustration and painted it with Reaper MSP paint.

I decided to work on the Chtulhu Chronoscope sailor minis for my lighthouse. I might need to get a few more ship's hands.

Speed paint job that I did as part of my 4th of July Paint Binge this year.  I was vaguely going for crazy Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner, with the white hair.

I have now completed a squad of these minis. I just really like the style of the power armour for each type of soldier. Nearly all the parts are Reaper and come on the sprues for the actual minis. However I did head swap the alien chap, taking a head from a space soldier from Bones 4. And the older gentleman ("everything on this damn Battlefield beeps...") has a head from Victrix Limited, who make ancient and dark age figures.
Paint scheme was ultra simple, a primer layer with Vallejo Early Green, a wash with GW camoshade, and black templar contrast paint for the guns. Scale 75 Viking Gold for the visors. I am playing around with free hand, for the numbers and decoration, am not very good at it but can always paint the areas white again.
