Scale75

Are you 2 using the fantasy line or the regular sets? My understanding is that the formulas for the 2 are different.

I am using the normal Scalecolor line, and do not (yet) own any of the Fantasy & Games line, so I cannot make comparisons.

I have been painting up a Minotaur using them right over here if you want to have a look.

So I made super thinned glaze/washes of Scale75 to add back over the colors to pop them back up. Holy moly, you can thin this stuff SO MUCH and it still coveres evenly and nicely.

I know for a fact I haven't thinned mine to that point yet. Glazes, to me, are an approximate 1:10 ratio, and I think the most I have done so far would be 1:7. Maybe the Fantasy line lends itself to glazing a little bit more? If you are specifically going to be glazing to pop colors and do highlights, it would seem that you would want to do them with the brighter (F&G) line......hmmmm......

I'll have to see just how far these can actually be pushed over the weekend without breaking apart. I guess that would be the real test of them.

Man, I want to get more SC75 paints. It's no good to be an enabler and not able to get them myself

Guess I need to live out my spending desires through you guys

PD: I also need about 20 extra RMS and a couple VGA. Not enough with 209 20 paints

Very often I have the issue that out of the bottle comes a clear liquid.

I shaked the bottle very long with 1-2 agigator balls, but no difference.

That happens a lot with the old batches. Scale guys told me it was defective in having a lot of medium and the bottle was overfilled, thus making shaking not very effective. Either you need a mechanical stirring method (getting a L shaped thing in there with a slow drill or an agitator) or you just take the clear medium out to make room.

I have made the latter and found it shakes and mixes much better now... So they truly seem to be overfilled.

I haven;t had that happen with my Scale fantasy stuff, but I have it happen all the time with my Reaper HD paints.

Is that with specific colors in the HD line? I haven't had that happen, if you are having issues with the HDs on a consistent bases then you should contact Reaper with a list of the colors that are giving you problems. I haven't had that experience with any of the HD paints although some of them are more opaque than others.

It's pretty much any color I go to use. I shake it and shake it and the top is still seperated and clear comes out. It happened so much after I got them that I never use them. I used my other reaper paint way more and have no issues with that line.

I got my HD paints a couple years ago, I think it was after they came out, I got the 2 case sets.

Doesn't really matter at this point, I am really happy with my scale stuff and don't forsee buying any more paint anytime soon.

Except that REaper is usually willing to work with you when there are issues with the paint. Quite frankly I reach for my HDs before I reach for the Scale 75s.

They are all great paints. I agree Reaper is more in touch with the user base. The Scale guys are... Spanish. However, when I emailed them they actually replied, and as you friends know, even gifted me a couple sets after I did that video review of my sets in English, so also rank as being pretty awesome for me.

They even mailed them to the wrong direction and when I asked about it several months later (I was shy because it was free stuff), they resent the sets, so... thumbs up.

There can be several paint companies in the world, in fact, I think it is better we have where to choose from. When I want fluid stuff right off the pot, I usually reach for Reaper. When I want a wide range of creamy colors, I go to Vallejo. And when I want traslucency in my skin and superfine metallics, I go to Scale. All good.

I've gotten several bad bottles from Scale (paint froze from the sounds of it during shipping) and emailed them and they had replacements to me in about 7 days (that's international as they didn't have a US local at the time) so the do back their product up.

As for the extra medium that always bubbles up. I took Willen's advice of just squirting all of that stuff out and then shaking and the paints are much nicer now.

Grabbed the ink set and 3 from the F&G line today, making it my 4th order from them this month. I will be able to do a review on the differences between the 2 sets relatively soon.

Used them again this weekend, and my initial thoughts haven't changed - they are really great paints.

I just hope I feel the same way about the F&G sets as I do about the Scalecolor sets....
