Bathory
I have an airbrush but haven't used Scale fantasy in it. I don't really use my airbrush for painting base coats though, I prime with vallejo, then throw a dark color (norally reaper nigthmare black) the do a zenital highlight (normally with a reaper bone white color)
Teskal
Normally thinning the acrylic paint down with distilled water until you have a milk-like consistency should be enough.
knarthex
Normally thinning the acrylic paint down with distilled water until you have a milk-like consistency should be enough. Normally this is true, But as mentioned above, Vallejo reacts badly with Tamiya airbrush thinner, which is alcohol based. Tamiya paint is almost the only paint I have used in my airbrush, so I was in the habit of using it to thin anything I put into the airbrush. The Tamiya thinner worked fine with GW paint, as well as some craft paint the kids painted their pine wood derby cars with. Having had the issue once, I am looking for a "Buglips" who report all the warts and pitfalls of using Scale 75 paint in an airbrush.... If they are out there.... 8) George
Willen
Sorry then, I misunderstood. I say try them out. I did, but it is probably more useful if you get first-hand experience. I think they reacted badly to alcohol in my tests but then, I hardly use isopropyl-based thinners anymore.

Hopefully, I will find a package when I get home and then I can report myself! 8) George
Magnum9
Is there any reason people don't seem to be using any kind of acrylic medium in their attempts to run these through their airbrush?I'm just now dipping my toe into airbrushing so I don't even know if the idea of acrylic medium to thin in and of itself is a stupid thing to ask. Also, a quick edit. Looking through some of the other airbrush threads, something struck me... What is the actual MSRP (or ballpark price) for a Iwata HP-CS airbrush? I managed to snag one for 85 bucks new, but as I look at the art supply websites, it looks like I either got a great deal... or a forgery. The one on my wishlist is 85$ but I've watched it fluctuate to 95$ down to 75$ and now back up to 85$ on Amazon. You're fine I think. How do you like it by the way? Magnum9
Okay kind of a relief because everything I saw that wasn't from the Japanese importers was around $145. Guess it's just typical retail mark up?I haven't gotten to do a whole lot with it just yet, I'm priming and base coating about 100 undead at the moment so nothing fancy. Once I have all the little "cannon fodder" guys done I am going to try some zenithal highlighting on some of the more substantial, armored guys. We'll see how my newbness handles it. What I can say is that compared to the single action I started with, I feel more control on this. The ability to get little "pops" is much easier. It's kind of heavy compared to what I was using, which I actually like. Feels like it sits in my big mit better. I've been using reaper paints, haven't read enough opinion on how to send Scale paint through it yet. That's why I was wondering if people have tried some of the acrylic mediums.

Do you find the top feed awkward? The airbrush I use is a Grex Genesis XS side feed... I was wondering how easy it is to clean with the non detachable paint cup... The $85 price point does seem a bit low for any Iawata save for their Neo line. But if it works for you, that is the only thing that matters. What kind of compressors are you all using? 8) George

There are some instances where I see what people are talking about where it blocks LOS, but I mean, just shoot at a slight angle. I dunno, maybe I'm not good enough yet to realize how that screws things up. Cleaning isn't so bad as long as it doesn't just sit and cake in there. The cup is really big, so it's easy to get soft swaps down in there and pull up any gunk. I'm using Iwata's smart jet on/off single piston. Got it because it seemed like a good balance of idiot proof (my #1 need), good quality and seems to lack the 100% mark up some other compressors have because "metal shell around it makes it "for mini painting"

I did a lot of experimentation with SC75 paints to get them through the Airbrush. Again, nothing really worked like their medium with the honorable exception of Vallego Thinner. I even sourced the actual chemical Vallejo uses there to see if I could replicate their thinner. I tried a lot of things. My airbrushing thinning medium is acrylic medium plus water plus a bit of flow improver and some drops of the above mentioned chemical. Works excellent on Vallejo and reaper paints. I have a no-brand compressor that looks like a knock-off of the Iwata Smart Jet. Auto-shut down, no tank, works fine with my brushes

galladril
Just put up 2 posts (due to picture constraints) in my WIP thread regarding my beginning tests with the F&G line and the Inktensity set. You can find it beginning here. It might be slightly long, but I tried to give as much info as I could given the circumstances..... Let me know if you have any specific questions and I hope this helps. Cheers!
Bathory
Metal mini Primed with vallejo airbrush grey Painted wth only thinned (I now always thin them with my mix of distilled water, medium and flow improver) Scale75 F&G I think it came out pretty well and the paint looks smoother than I normally get.
