So I have this gift card burning a hole. If you were to get one set of scale 75, which one would you get?

I think which single set depends on your current paint collection, if there are any holes, your style, and what you like to paint.

For example, if you paint metallics and/or are dissatisfied with your current metallics, the Scale Color metallics are lovely: highly pigmented and fine grained.

On the other hand, if you like NMM, the one of the NMM sets would be a good bet.

Ron

I agree with Ron. It really comes down to what you need the most. All of the SC75 sets I have filled voids in my paint sets.

Good point. I'd say I really don't have many gaps in color selection. I'm not particularly fond of Reaper flesh tones for painting flesh...

Thoughts on the flesh set? Likes/dislikes?

Shades of doom. Great colors. Sweet dark reddish color and the black is the color that scale75are so good at. Strong tinting power but translucent so you can use it to achieve great depth in shadows. Throw in some great desaturated greyish blue and greyish green. But the metal n alchemy sets are widely praised as some of the best metallic around.

I have all of the P3 metallics which I like but I'll look into the metal and alchemy sets.

Thanks

I have both metal and alchemy sets, the silver and the gold tones.

They rock. but you need to shake them well after use/storage.

I even opened a few and stirred them with a wooden kebab skewer, but they are amazing.

I used them on my Ky-Ra, Gebuhza and Tuma bust already.

I now have 60% Reaper Paints, 35% Scale 75 and some otheres for the remaining 5%..

The flesh set is a nice set and you can paint some really good caucasian/native american skintones with it.  African & indian skin is a little trickier but can be done.  OTOH I find the arabic shadow looks a little odd and get into fights with it.  The main thing to keep in mind with this set is that you will be doing a lot of mixing to get the hues that you want.  Depending on your painting preferences this may be fine.  I actually just picked up some reaper skin triads so I could be lazy about it for tabletop.

I have the flesh set, the gold and steel metal sets and sunset purple (cause it's pretty) sitting in a cart. Contemplating another set... Hello, my name is Mel and I have a paint addiction.

Hi Mel!  The Metal n' Alchemy Copper Series is really nice  or maybe the Inktensity Set... am I helping?

These Scale 75 metallics are rather transparent much like an interference paint and have a learning curve for a nice even application that holds up upon examination.  I had "issues" when painting larger surfaces- streakiness of the non-metallic pigment, brush strokes showing ect.    Would definitely recommend an undercoat of a similarly colored normal matte or flat paint before application- depending on circumstances, of course.   Also, I should probably pop the nozzle of the bottle off and use a paint stirrer to get a proper mix... I wish I had a paint shaker. lol

Actually, I'd like to really recommend the Inktensity set. It's probably not something most people think of, but I do use it quite often (almost every time I paint now). It really helps with color saturation and is very fun to work with. You can make washes or glazes out of it too, just make sure to use synthetic hair brushes with inks as they are very rough on natural hair brushes.

Good info people! I mix a lot. I'm not sure I've ever used a paint straight out of the bottle. So mixing the flesh tones wouldn't bother me. I have several of the skintone triads. They are useful colors for sure, dark skin and dark elf are my favorites of the bunch.

The copper set is the set I have in my cart, not the gold. So yes, you are helping. Helping me remember what I'm ordering. Lol

The intensity set is on the short list. I have a set of inks but I'm not real impressed with them.

Also on the short list is the shades of doom just because I like the colors.

I have the complete set of Scale color, and I use the Red set quite often, The monochrome set is great for greys, and undead / pallid flesh. I use the wood and leather set quite a bit as well.

But I tend to use mainly Scale 75 by now, with certain colors from other Co.s now...

I like the Inktensity, but was disappointed in the 'Wood' as I don't think it is dark enough.

I took advantage of the Christmas sale to fill some gaps with Scale 75 paint.

I got the Inktensity, Flesh, and Blood and Fire Red sets.

I have a lot of paint my father let me borrow since he is not using in now (he is working on real cars and not models at the moment).

Since he mostly painted cars and trains he lacked flesh tones and I did not see any inks.

The red is just because I like red, it is my favorite color.

He had about 10 different Tamiya metallics so I am not going to get any of those right now.

I decided to stick with my original plan since I have lots of reds, greens, blues and browns.

Flesh

Copper metal

Steel metal

Sunset purple

And shades of doom

The scale 75 USA site had the best prices plus with the 15% off coupon. I saved 19 bucks and still have 7 bucks left from my Christmas money. Yeah coupons!

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Great choices. Looks I arrived late to the party of recommendations / price of SC75 paints

Hope you like them as much as we do. I still love my Reapers and Vallejo, for some particular colors I would never change them (I don't like any of my choices for "Ivory" in SC, and SC75 is too transparent sometimes for basecoats, Reapers are great for that too!)

I'll never give up my Reaper paints, I love them. I'm sure I'll like these as well, I've wanted to get a few sets for awhile now. They sound amazing and I like to expand my color selection a bit.

I also have the Inktensity set, I use my WN brushes, afterwards I use brush restorer and brush soap.

No problems here.

Good choices Mel.

You won't regret them.

Thanks! I'm so excited!

I have a full set of the regular Scale 75 colors, I have a love/hate relationship with them. I have had them go "grainy" on me especially the skintones. I love the fantasy colors but I only have two of those sets, they are a different formulation from the regular line or at least the regular line that I have. I have heard that they have/are/will be changing the formulation in the regular line. Having painted with them for well over a year now I find that I still use my Reaper and Vallejo colors more than Scale 75. The metallic colors rock we will see how Anne's new metal formulation in the BONES line compares.

In the regular line I like and use the Blue and Green sets quite a bit followed by the monochrome, wood/leather and flesh sets. I have gotten frustrated enough with the Scale 75 flesh that I went back and made matches to the Reaper flesh colors and I'll pull out Reaper every time I'm painting skin.
