tiniest rhombus
I have actually found the advice, notably from Silvervane in here, quite useful. As I've already got a full set of P3 paints on the way (which are a decent set by most accounts) then another full set would be overkill. I've come to something of a compromise and decided to stick with the P3s but get hold of the three alchemy metal sets and the ink set to compliment. I think it's a better idea. Welcome back to the hobby! My experience with these paints. P3 are nice paints, a bit thicker than the SC line and a lot thicker than the Reaper line. I don't use them often but that doesn't mean they're not good paints, they are very nice paints. I just prefer Reaper or SC consistancy out of the bottle and I have a powerful disdain for those stupid pots. Maybe it's just the colors I have in the P3 but some of them dry a bit on the plasticy side If not thinned just right. Reaper paints are formulated for layering techniques, thin well and are lovely, they dry a bit satin. SC thin easily and are super matte I love them. P3 metallics are nice. SC metallics are the most amazing metallic paints ever. I may have been known to hold them close and murmur my precious to them. I will say in addition to the alchemy sets and the ink, I highly recommend the Shades of Doom set. Simply love those colors. Happy Painting!
Willen
Due to all the praise, for my next Euro trip (yey! One more week!) I am already budgeting for the Shades of Doom set. And the Inks. If I have almost ALL the regular SC75 line, is there any pack of the Fantasy Line I should be getting to complement it?

My advice would be to look at them and see what colors interest you. Hopefully you can see them first hand? If not, the website pictures should give a good idea at least.

No, but I need a BUDGET Yeah, problem is that looking at them, and the cross with my own set, and the 20 VMCs, and 20 RMS... it is hard to justify unless some things are highly recommended (like the Shades of Doom. Honey, I HAD to get them!). And I also have a list of Game Air paints I absolutely need, and minis... sigh. So since some of you have both, I thought perhaps you could suggest something. I think the undead flesh set has some nice colors in there like pale violets, right?

Willen
it is hard to justify unless some things are highly recommended (like the Shades of Doom. Honey, I HAD to get them!). What's so nice about the Shades of Doom set? From what I heard and seen, nice set of desaturated non-blacks. Somebody with actual experience will surely chime in. Also, what's the difference between the normal SC75 paints and the Fantasy range? Supposedly the Fanstasy line is formulated to be more bright (standard SC75 are very matte and usually, desaturated, geared towards a more "realistic" paintstyle if you want, more European). They also seem to be formulated to be more fluid, as reported like the SC75 metallics, which I love. The one knock I have against my SC75 is their gel-like propierties that clash with my paintstyle.
knarthex
The F&G line is much more like the metallics in their 'fluidity''. I am still coming to terms with how much to thin them.... I bought the whole set in January, and have been using them here and there with the regular line. Decay Black is a big Favorite so far. (Shades of Doom) I have used a few paints from each F&G set so far, mainly for doing the gems on my Takhisis, Ivan, and Matthias minis The darker reds from Creatures from Hell, The Middle Blues from Elven Colors, and the Middle / Light Greens from Orcs and Goblins worked well for that. I have not used any of the Unnatural Flesh colors yet, except for Misfits Green, Which I did like quite a bit, but that may change with demons and devils I am doing this month. I used the Arbuckles Brown and Bosh Chestnut, (Both on Matthias) good solid browns from the Steam and Punk Lines.... So I am not sure what specific set(s) to tell you to get.... except all of them... I guess the best thing is for you to project what you will be painting in the near future, and choose the paint sets that will fit those projects. You are not helping Sorry.... been listening to Ub3r to much..... Really NOT trying to be a smart elf, just telling you my experiences.... It would be helpful if the F&G line and the Metallics came in single bottles..... This then---> I guess the best thing is for you to project what you will be painting in the near future, and choose the paint sets that will fit those projects. George EDIT---> Besides, there are no budgets on Vacation trips! Edited March 12, 2016 by knarthex
ub3r_n3rd
Very good, George, my young apprentice!
knarthex
I have been using more of the Fantasy and Games line, and I am finding them to be more translucent than the regular Scale Color. They do, of course, need much less thinning..... YMMV George
willmontgomery
Scuttlebutt is that Scale75 will be coming out with some WWII-themed paint sets. For me, "WWII" means "desaturated colors". Just wanted to spread the word.

Hope the NATO colors are available too! Edit--->I am not seeing them on the US site, do I need to check the European one? Edit 2 ---> Yes, Yes I did.... Edit 3---> 16 new Colors in 2 sets, German Waffen SS Camo, and German Vehicles Camo. I think I already have all of the colors from VMC from my Flames of War painting.... Edit 4---> Wonder if it is the F&G, or the Scale Color formula.... Edited March 17, 2016 by knarthex
