Recent 10mm: A Lizard Hero, A Cursed Knight, and a Fire Elemental

Recommended Posts

I recently completed some 10mm fantasy figures for my "Bear Yourselves Valiantly" armies; which included a Lizardman Hero,  a Cursed Knight Leader, and a Fire Elemental.

I had a leftover Lizardman figure (I believe he was made by A.I.M.) and thought that he bared a striking resemblance to  a certain purple TV Dinosaur, so couldn't help but paint him up as the great Lizardman Hero, B'uar-Nee!

Recently I painted three  28mm Barrow Wardens from Reaper's Bones line, and was really pleased with the results (Which you can see here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62404-barrow-wardens-77346-thru-48-from-bones-ii/ ). So I thought I would experiment with a Warmaster Chaos Leader I had, to see if the rust effect I had used on the Barrow Wardens, would translate to 10mm.  I'm very pleased with the results, and think I will now paint a unit of Chaos Knights I have as this sort of "Cursed Knight" look.

lastly, I don't know who made this figure but I received it in a short-lived birthday figure exchange I was part of a few years ago, and since it was 15mm (I think) I never did anything with it.  I came across it the other day; and not knowing what it was supposed to be, was struck by how the sculpted "fur" ?  looked a lot like flames on it.  So I decided to paint him up like a fire elemental.  I think the result is pretty good.

Adorable?!?! They look pretty fierce to me!

I meant adorable in the fiercest sense of the word. :-p

Little known fact: Ewoks are considered a weapon of mass destruction. Not governed by treaties either, unlike photoshopped kittens.

Thanks all for the comments.  :)

So... A lizard hero, a cursed knight, and a fire elemental walk into a bar...

Yes, it does sound like the set up for a joke. :)

Ha, I love the B'uar-nee (and he loves me...  {sorry}).  and whatever is on fire looks really cool as a walking incarnation of heat.  You said it was supposed to be covered in fur.... Was it born a wookie?  And played with gas?  Are we watching a new terror weapon in action?

      Howdy, all.
So, in my coming Reaper order (Thursday can't come soon enough!), I've got Mrs. Bones and the Pathfinder Goblin Pyros. All of these minis have fire of one sort or another, and I've never painted fire before, because, well, I'm a rookie at mini painting. Thankfully, I was smart enough to purchase some firey colors alongside those, namely Fireball Orange and Brilliant Red. I've also got Candlelight Yellow. With that in mind, how should I go about painting flames like these? How should I wash and drybrush the fire also?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This was an exercise in improvisation. People like to use the google hangouts to have painting sessions. But, all my painting stuff normally lives in the next room away from the computational machine. But some of it had gotten waylaid and dropped off in the wrong room so I decided to see if I could manage something. @knarthex was in the hangouts painting tiny CamelFlag patterns on tiny NATO troopers at the same time.

Here is Galladorn getting a bath in Simple Green diluted with water. The plastic bag is the type I use mostly for sorting Miniatures. File this under: how to mess with gooey-green cleaners and stuff near expensive equipment.

Next he got buried in paper towels to dry off.

After going back to Darius and repaint him I decided to do the same with Domur. Like I did with Darius, I'm posting both versions, the first I painted and the current one. I kept both since I had two or three of them.
For the first one I tried a scheme similar to the official one: on the second, a more conservative fire look.
